“Home. Place. Belonging. Throughout Canadian history, people of Chinese descent have contributed to the development of our nation. They resisted and persevered, overcoming stereotypes, labels, and racist policies. They created homes and built places and spaces to foster connection and community.
Now, we commemorate and remember the contributions of Chinese Canadians over the past 100 years since the Chinese Exclusion Act. Markham Museum and the York Region District School Board Museum & Archives have worked in conjunction with YRDSB students, and the University of Toronto Museum Studies program to develop this exhibit. It is on display at Markham Museum from September 28, 2023 to February 25, 2024, and is available as an online exhibit here. The exhibit will then travel to public venues and schools in York Region.
Explore, learn, and listen to the stories, traditions and knowledge of the diverse Chinese Canadian community from Markham and York Region.” -Markham Museum

This year marks the 100 year anniversary of what became known as the Chinese Exclusion Act.

We were happy to present Unwanted Soldiers to our community. Thank you Kwozimodo Kwoi for helping to arrange for this viewing.
