Remember the freedom of exploring the woods, the challenge of a long hike, or the joy of sitting around a campfire?

The Toronto Star's Kevin Donovan Chief Investigative Reporter reflects on how 'roughing it' on the Bruce Trail as a teenager shaped who he is today, and why it’s a right of passage today's kids shouldn't miss out on.

However, not every child gets the chance to experience nature. Let’s change that! Your support of the Fresh Air Fund helps send kids to camp for an unforgettable summer in the great outdoors.

Co-workers, sweet treats, and a whole lot to celebrate! 🥳

On May 28th, The Toronto Star Social Committee hosted an in-house bake sale and a handmade bowls silent auction to raise money for the Fresh Air Fund.
The goal? To send 10 financially vulnerable kids to summer camp! ☀️

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our team, they raised a grand total of $1,224.50, landing just an inch away from their goal! What an amazing achievement.

A massive thank you to: The Social Committee for bringing this event to life, our talented staff bakers for donating delicious treats, Matt Cole for donating his beautiful, handmade bowls, and everyone who donated and supported the cause!

(Fun fact: Based on past statistics, it costs an average of $123 to send one kid to camp)

The Toronto Star Senior Politics Reporter David Rider is taking us back to the mid-1960s and 70s at Ontario's historic Ronville Lodge. For generations of city families, these lakeside resorts weren't just a vacation—they were a place where you instantly gained "a couple hundred aunts, uncles, and cousins" for two weeks every July.

Giving the Gift of Camp in Memory of Sarah Joy Short 🤍

Have you seen this beautiful story by Daysha Loppie, Staff Reporter for the Toronto Star? It highlights how a powerful community initiative is turning a profound loss into a lasting legacy of joy for children.

The article shares the moving story of Sarah, a Toronto woman who absolutely loved being a camp counsellor and pouring her heart into giving kids the summer of their lives. Today, her community is keeping her vibrant spirit alive by organizing a community run (Run for Joy) to raise money for the Fresh Air Fund. Because of their dedication, children who otherwise wouldn’t have the chance will get to experience the magic of summer camp.

We want to send a massive thank you to Emily Litt, the incredible organizer of this event and all the family, friends and community who helped with the event and ran for Sarah. Your love and support for the fund in memory of Sarah is truly changing lives and ensuring her legacy of warmth shines bright. 🌲☀️

It’s a chance for them to safely explore nature, discover new strengths, and create unforgettable memories that they will carry with them forever.

A summer filled with joy, fresh air, and adventure shouldn't be out of reach. Let’s come together as a community to give these incredible kids a summer they will never forget.
