🍁CANADA OBSERVES THE NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION🇨🇦
This day was established to commemorate a tragic chapter in Canada’s history and its lasting effects. This collective act of remembrance contributes to advancing truth and reconciliation and deepening Canadian society’s understanding of the residential school system.
It remembers the Survivors, the many children who never returned home, and the lasting impacts on Indigenous families and communities.
We also remember the March 26 visit by members of the Argentinean Network for the Right to Identity – Canada/USA and Granddaughter #129, whose identity was restored by Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo, to the Woodland Cultural Centre, where the Mohawk Institute Indian Residential School operated until June 27, 1970, after 142 years.
We reproduce some impressions from that visit and today’s media release from the Governor General of Canada for the National Day.
We encourage you to visit the Centre or similar places across Canada.
