Did you catch Tuesday’s video? Now it’s time for the answers. 🏡📄

This is the final part of our Insurance Awareness series — and this week, we’re looking at side hustles & small business risks.

If you’re earning income from home (even casually), your standard home insurance may not cover what you think it does.

👉 Lost client data
👉 Injuries during a home appointment
👉 Property damage from business activities

These situations can fall into a grey area where personal coverage ends… and business risk begins.

👉 Swipe through to see where gaps can appear — and what you should be aware of before your next policy review.

💬 What surprised you most? Let us know in the comments.

🏠 Something risky is around the corner... are you covered?

Over the past few weeks, one thing has become clear: many of us are living with insurance gaps we didn’t even know existed.

This is the final week of our Insurance Awareness Campaign - sponsored by CAA Insurance.

We’ve covered the home.
We’ve explored digital risks.
Now we’re looking at something closer to home for many of us…

👉 Side hustles & small business activities

In today’s video:
📸 A wedding photographer loses irreplaceable client photos
💇 A home-based appointment ends in injury
🔥 A garage workshop fire gets out of control

If something like this happened to you… would your policy actually cover it?

Come back Thursday when we break it all down.

Did you catch Tuesday’s video for week 2 of our educational series? Now it's time for the answers. 🏡📄

Welcome to the second part of this week's OIPA Insurance Awareness Campaign!

📅 How this series works: For 3 weeks, we are bringing you a two-part educational series. Every Tuesday, we drop a video highlighting everyday scenarios that could catch you off guard. Then, every Thursday, we share a detailed "Explainer" document breaking down the exact insurance facts you need to know.

This week (week 2), we are diving into 'Digital and Tech Risks.'

If you missed Tuesday's video, don't worry! You can watch it right now for context on the OIPA YouTube channel:

https://www.youtube.com/

Now, for the big question: If any of those scenarios happened to you today, how would your insurance policy actually respond?

Swipe through today’s Risk Breakdown to find out exactly where standard coverage ends and personal liability begins when it comes to situations involving the 'Internet of Things'.

👇 Join the conversation: Which of these risk factors surprised you the most? Drop your thoughts in the comments below!

💾 Keep this for later: Click the 'save' icon in the top right corner of this post so you have these facts handy before your next policy renewal.

⚠️ The next risk might already be in your home.

After Week 1, one thing became clear: many people are living with insurance gaps they didn’t even know existed.

Welcome to Week 2 of OIPA’s Insurance Awareness Campaign, sponsored by CAA Insurance.

This week, we’re looking at digital risks at home: the devices we rely on every day and the unexpected problems they can create.

🎥 In today’s video:

💲 An accidental online purchase
🌡️ A thermostat behaving strangely
🛜 A hacker breaking into a home Wi-Fi network

These kinds of cyber and technology risks in the home sound unlikely… until they happen.

If one of these situations happened today, would your insurance policy actually cover you?

Watch the video, then join us again on Thursday as we break down the insurance implications of digital home risks.

🏡⚠️Something risky is around the corner... are you covered? 🏡⚠️

We all think "it won't happen to me," but everyday home life is full of unexpected surprises.

Welcome to Week One of the OIPA's entry to the 'Insurance Awareness Campaign - Sponsored by CAA Insurance', where we are diving into Home and Lifestyle Risks.

📅 How this campaign works: Over the next 3 weeks, we are breaking down real-world risks. Every Tuesday, we will share a new video highlighting everyday scenarios that could catch you off guard. Then, every Thursday, we will follow up with a detailed breakdown of the insurance facts you need to know for those specific risks.

In today's video, we are looking at a few scenarios that could happen to anyone:
🕯️ A cozy candle placed in a precarious position.
🏋️ An accidental injury in your newly set-up home gym.
🐕 Your normally friendly dog deciding the postman looks like a snack.
🔨 A weekend DIY roofing project that ends up falling directly onto that exact same postman (seriously, somebody check on him).

If any of these happened today...to you, would your current policy protect you?

Watch the video to see how fast things can go wrong, and check back here on Thursday, where we will break down the exact insurance implications for each of these everyday hazards.

🗞️ Headline: Something risky is around the corner. Are you covered?

📣 The OIPA entry for the 2026 Insurance Awareness Award - sponsored by CAA Insurance Company begins next week!

In our everyday decisions, we often don't see the unexpected consequences until it’s too late. That’s why, starting March 10, the Ontario Insurance Professionals Association(OIPA) is launching a special three-week awareness initiative to help you navigate the risks you might not even know you have.

Here is what you can expect over the next three weeks:

🗓️ Every Tuesday: We’ll release a new video depicting real-world scenarios that may—or may not—be covered by your current insurance.

🗓️ Every Thursday: We’ll dive deeper into those scenarios to examine potential liabilities and expose situations where your insurance might not pay out.

Our goal is to ensure that when the unexpected happens, you aren’t left in the dark.

Join the Conversation: We want to reach as many people as possible with this campaign. Please LIKE, COMMENT, and SHARE all videos throughout this initiative to help the public and our community stay protected!
