It was such a pleasure to join the 💍 team at their newly-opened location this weekend! We were honoured to be hosted by a brand that not only creates gorgeous jewellery but does so with intentionality, supporting causes and organizations that service the community.
Thank you to the whole team and all the customers who supported their fundraising initiative yesterday!

There is currently a push toward a version of strength and "stoicism" that venerates apathy and scorn. This brings us to one end of the spectrum of emotional regulation, making overreactivity an eventual outcome as people can only suppress their emotions for so long.

Our best choice is balance - self-awareness, emotional intelligence, healthy expression, and non-violent communication. This is the true embodiment of strength and maturity, paving the way for safer community outcomes.

Sistas Calling is a riveting music-dance-theatre production that serves as a public education presentation, spreading awareness about the prevalence and impact of violence against women. The SCOPE (Sistas Calling Outreach & Public Education) Program was designed by Dr. Roz of Dr. Roz’s Healing Place with the intention of calling on the global community, particularly men, to work together to dismantle violence against women and children. The cornerstone of the SCOPE program is the album, Dr. Roz & Sistas, and the music-dance-theatre production, Sistas Calling, which tells the story of a survivor named Rosa who escapes abuse, heals her trauma, and overcomes racism and sexism, to transform and emerge resilient and empowered. SCOPE seeks to spread powerful messaging using music, art, and performance to reach the public in an authentic and immersive experience.

Emotions are information but for many of us, the sensations that come with them are too uncomfortable that we avoid processing and appropriate expression. Consciously and unconsciously, we learn that we can express ourselves through aggression as a means to control our environments and circumstances, so it is common for many emotions to be expressed as anger. Anger is valuable as it is meant to set off an internal alarm prompting us to protect ourselves. However it is not appropriate for every day, especially in the modern world.

Many children and adults do not know how to process jealousy, confusion, dissapointment, the sting of exclusion, overwhelm, or helplessness. Instead many of us perceive each loss, delay, demand, and barrier as an extreme threat and injustice. Cue anger and aggression. We see this manifest as insults, threats, shouting, shutting down, destruction, withdrawal/abandonment, and/or violence.

Much of our stresses can be resolved with patience and communication, unfortunately not enough people have been shown this. It is crucial for us to make emotional intelligence a core feature and expectation of our development. Today we offer this reminder.

There are those who insist that fear and pain are the greatest teaching tools. Many of us see fear akin to respect. Reality today shows us evidence of the opposite. In every country around the world, we see the devastating impact of fear and pain on the lives of individuals AND society as a whole. Injury, disease, autoimmune disorders, dysfunctional families, domestic violence, corrupt leadership, warfare, g3noc1de. It is paramount that we adopt new ways to lead, to relate, to live. Only then will we see a better future.

Emotional intelligence is a vital trait that each person should develop.

High emotional intelligence includes emotional recognition of emotions of the self and others, using emotional information to guide thinking and behavior, discerning between and labelling different feelings, and adjusting emotions to adapt to environments. This includes emotional literacy, self-awareness, self-regulation, social skills, empathy, and motivation.
