The Kelvin Doe Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of our Maker & Media Lab, a new collaborative learning and project space located at Daniels Spectrum in the heart of Regent Park, Toronto.
The Maker & Media Lab aims to address a critical gap in equitable access to hands-on learning, digital tools, and creative and new media resources. While technology continues to shape how we work, learn, and express ourselves, many learners—particularly those in underserved communities like Regent Park—lack the space or support to engage meaningfully with these tools. The Lab exists to close that gap by offering access to essential equipment, mentorship, and project-based learning in a space built for exploration, innovation, and meaningful community engagement.
This Lab is guided by four core goals:
* Providing a fabrication and construction zone equipped with hand tools, 3D printers, soldering stations, and clean work surfaces for students to design, build, and complete their own projects;
* Offering a media production space with a podcasting setup and access to MacBooks for audio and video editing, digital storytelling, and content creation;
* Delivering one-on-one support from a production specialist to help participants plan, troubleshoot, and realize their ideas from concept to final product;
* Investigating maker education by documenting learning experiences, piloting creative curriculum, and collaborating with students and researchers to explore how hands-on learning impacts learners’ creativity, agency, and engagement.
On April 27, 2025, the Maker & Media Lab will be officially launched with an invite-only panel at Daniels Spectrum, where students, educators, and community leaders will ask the question: “Can We Design Creative Spaces to Support Learners’ Flourishing?”
