Have you read or watched Little Women? 📖

Tanushree just finished reading by Louisa May Alcott, a timeless classic about sisterhood, love, and growing up.

It’s always interesting to hear what stands out to our students after they finish a book. So often, we find their reflections mirror who they already are.

For Tanushree, Beth’s kindness and generosity left an impression, and it’s no surprise to anyone who knows her. She’s just as gentle and loving as the character she admires.

Who is your favorite Little Women character? P.S. There is only one right answer! 😉

Don’t be fooled — balloon and three-legged races are harder than they look! 🎈They take teamwork, coordination, and lots of concentration.

After Diwali, our students enjoyed a week of fun-filled activities while our teachers took a well-deserved break to visit friends and family.

One of the highlights was Outdoor Games Day! All grades participated in sprint races and classic relays, such as the sack race and the lemon-spoon challenge.

But teamwork didn’t stop there — our 11th graders organized and led the entire event. From planning and hosting to participating alongside their peers. They showed incredible leadership and enthusiasm.

It was the perfect mix of teamwork and fun, and we loved seeing our kids in action! 💛

Do you remember your first Diwali away from home? ✨

For our preschoolers at Shanti Bhavan 1 and Shanti Bhavan 2, this was their very first Diwali at Shanti Bhavan, and we wanted them to feel special. Their eyes lit up when they saw the campus covered in lights, diyas, and rangolis!

Over the next 14 years, they’ll celebrate many more Diwalis, birthdays, and milestones together, creating memories that will stay with them forever.

At Shanti Bhavan, every special occasion reminds our children that life is worth being celebrated. 💛

What does Diwali mean to you? 🪔

Every region in India tells a different story about Diwali. Yet at its heart, the festival celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.

Our children and staff love it! We dress up, make rangolis (flower mandalas), dance, and excitedly wave our sparklers around.

But then we thought, "What does Diwali mean for us?" We realized that Shanti Bhavan is also trying to bring goodness, peace, and knowledge to our children and their families.

Recently, we shared the challenges of running two campuses. But when we pause for a moment, look around, and see the sparkle in our children’s eyes as they celebrate Diwali, we can’t help but feel that we’re on the right track.

Let us know what Diwali means for you in the comments below!

Children can teach us a lot about life.

One lesson our kids teach us at Shanti Bhavan is that adults sometimes take life too seriously.

Who can blame us? Our schedules are busy, we need to buy groceries, care for ourselves and others, etc. Then just when you thought you got on top of your to-do list... your apartment floods!

But when we play with our kids on the playground, they remind us to take a deep breath and relax, and that it's okay to be a bit silly, too.

We should all embrace our inner child from time to time! 🤪

At Shanti Bhavan, we give our children more than an education. We help them reach their full potential.

We take a multi-faceted approach, investing in every aspect of each child. This includes encouraging students to explore art, music, sports, and other extracurricular activities.

These activities help them discover who they are — their talents, passions, and dreams, what they enjoy and don’t, what excites them and what doesn’t. It helps shape their sense of self and build their confidence.

We’re also constantly amazed by our students’ diverse abilities. One student might pick up a brush and create a beautiful painting, another might play a song perfectly on the piano, or another might excel on the soccer field.

Our kids would likely never have discovered their talents without a supportive environment. This reminds us of what is possible when you give a child the same opportunities as others.

Doubling our schools has meant doubling the responsibilities. But our incredible team keeps both campuses thriving.

⭐ Ms. Sagaya, our head matron, travels to new villages to recruit children in the greatest need.
⭐ Ms. Beena coordinates with various administrators to ensure academic quality across both campuses.
⭐ Mr. Tomy collaborates with staff on facilities-related issues for Shanti Bhavan 2 while continuing to fulfill his own responsibilities at Shanti Bhavan 1.
⭐ And of course, Dr. George oversees every aspect of both schools to ensure we provide the very best to the children in our care.

Your support allows us to continue our mission. You have given that more than ever before. Thank you for all you’ve done and continue to do.

One of our biggest challenges is ensuring that children at Shanti Bhavan 2 have access to the same resources and opportunities as those at Shanti Bhavan 1.

We’ve already made progress — we’ve established a farm that provides fresh, healthy food for our children. Next, we’re working toward securing funding to build art and music rooms, a library, sports, and activity spaces.

Despite the challenges of two campuses, it also opens up new opportunities. We can share fruits and vegetables between campuses. In the future, both campuses can participate in sports and arts competitions together.

As the children of Shanti Bhavan 2 grow up, our community will become even more robust and resilient. Far more than if they only existed on their own.

Running two Shanti Bhavan campuses comes with challenges that go far beyond funding.

At Shanti Bhavan 1, we’ve spent 28 years refining our systems, strengthening academics, and setting a high standard of care for our children. Now, our goal is to ensure that Shanti Bhavan 2 meets those same standards of excellence.

That begins with our people. New teachers and aunties are trained to uphold Shanti Bhavan’s standards. While senior staff show younger staff how to build trust, provide care, and guide children through challenges.

Despite these challenges, our mission remains the same: to help children break the cycle of poverty in one generation. Except, now we can help twice the number of children!
