Hello ETT members,

Thank you.

I wanted to express my gratitude to each ETT member who participated in both elections. I’m grateful for your vote, support and confidence in our Building Union Power slate, electing all 9 BUP candidates who ran for Executive Officer.

This newly elected Executive team will continue to support members, fight to uphold our collective agreement, ensure fast responses, connect and organize with members on school visits and work to build our union power for this upcoming round of bargaining, with stewards and action teams in every school.

This ETT Executive will work, to ensure we are 10,000 strong during our contract negotiations with the board, and as part of the 84,000 ETFO membership province wide ready and mobilized to fight this government. We will build on our alliances with our union affiliates to have a collective power of 255,000 Education Workers, parents and community groups fighting for the public education our students deserve. April 29th was our first big visible collective action, and it caught the attention of the Minister of Education Calandra and Premier Ford.

This is a government that instead of funding our Public Education:

- Spent $28.9 million on a personal jet

- Cut Public Education by $6.3 billion and moved to increase privatization

- Passed Bill 33 - The Supporting Children and Student Act which grants the education minister expanded powers to take over school boards, get rid of community oversight and mandate policies.

- Passed Bill 101 which limits trustee powers and centralizes education control within Queen’s Park. Bill 101 will cap school board sizes to 5-12 trustees impacting the TDSB and introduces a corporate CEO structure in every boards.

- Passed Bill 97 which creates changes to Freedom of Information laws, limiting public access to government documents, Ford’s phone records and increases the cost to obtain them.

- Closed the Ontario Science Centre

- Used the Notwithstanding Clause against Education Workers undermining collective bargaining rights

The list is endless.

The Ford Government’s power grab needs to be stopped.

The people united will never be defeated.
Teachers united will never be defeated!

This fight involves every teacher and I along with our newly elected ETT Executive are ready to lead and ensure every teacher is informed, engaged and involved.

The organizing is continuing, together we will build a movement that will deliver a fully funded public education system.
