Screens, Boundaries, and Balance: A Workshop for Families

Does screen time feel challenging or hard to navigate in your home? You are not alone.

For many autistic and neurodivergent children and youth, technology is a meaningful source of comfort, connection, and calm. At the same time, it can also get in the way of sleep, school, and everyday life, leaving caregivers unsure of how to best support their child at home.

Your volunteer work matters, and it deserves to be recognized.

The David Conforti – Reach for the Stars Award celebrates autistic youth and adults in Ontario who are making a meaningful impact through volunteerism and community involvement.

Created in memory of David Conforti, a passionate volunteer and self-advocate who believed that “belonging really does matter,” this award recognizes autistic individuals who are helping build more connected, inclusive communities through their contributions.

If you are an autistic youth or adult in Ontario with a passion for volunteering, we encourage you to apply.

🗓️ Applications close June 30, 2026.

Inspired by a passion for supporting autistic children and their families, Shadee began volunteering with Autism Ontario after moving to Canada. Having previously worked with autistic children in Jamaica, she wanted to stay connected to the autism community and continue making a meaningful difference.

One of the things that has stayed with her most is seeing the relief parents feel when they know their child is in a safe and caring environment. As Shadee shares, “There is something incredibly powerful about seeing a parent take a quiet breath and, for just a moment, allow themselves to relax knowing their child is in a safe and caring space.”

Over the past nine months, volunteering has strengthened her empathy, deepened her understanding of the autism community, and reinforced her goal of pursuing a career in policy and advocacy related to developmental services.

For anyone considering volunteering, Shadee’s advice is simple: “Do it. Volunteering with Autism Ontario, or any other organization will change you in the best way.”
