The Jean Augustine Center for Young Women's Empowerment (JAC) was launched in 2014 to empower girls and young women. Under the leadership of Patron-Founder Jean Augustine, the Centre offers a range of empowerment programs free-of-charge to young girls ages 7-17 years old. Our service focuses on:

- education;

- nutrition;

- mindfulness;

- life skills

- real-world job training. Hailed as a trailblazer, Jean Augustine is a single mother who became the first ever African-Canadian woman elected to Canada's Parliament in 1993. She served with distinction and was responsible for laws making Black History Month official; and the Famous Five statues -- the first-ever of Canadian women erected on Parliament Hill. A life-long volunteer, she received the Order of Canada for her work and continued dedication to improving outcomes for youth, single mothers and newcomers. With continued support and kind donations from community individuals and others, the JAC will continue striving to help develop healthy, empowered and educated young ladies. This is a win for community, for Canada and for the world.

At the Jean Augustine Centre, we believe that girls can do anything! 👧🏽

This year's International Day of the Girl event is all about science, technology, engineering, and math! (STEM) 🧪

To encourage girls to explore STEM — a typically male-dominated field — we are taking over our regular Friday programming to do hands-on STEM stations inspired by real careers!

💄Station 1: Beauty Boss: Lip Balm Making and Product Design (Cosmetic Chemist)

🧴Station 2: The Skincare Chemistry Lab (Lab Technician)

💥Station 3: The GIANT Foam Lab (Chemical Engineer)

💧Station 4: Clean-Water Engineering Challenge (Environmental Engineer)

If you know really know me, you know that I wanted to be a pilot since I could walk. There are various pictures of me as a toddler with "wings". I even went so far as to build wings from cardboard, glue & feathers from my murdered pillow and jump off stairs, porches and trees. Unfortunately, being born in London Ontario during the 60's as a girl that was Black this dream wasn't really "allowed" and not encouraged. The partnership with Nieuport Aviation Infrastructure Partners GP Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport has awakend these dreams in every girl in the Centre. Girls Take Flight is BACK at Billy Bishop Airport on October 17! ✈️

Ever wondered what it’s like to sit in a cockpit, try a flight simulator, or get up close to real aircraft? Now’s your chance!

Join us for an unforgettable day of aviation, STEM discovery, inspiring speakers, hands-on activities, and interactive experiences designed to spark curiosity and confidence.

🌟 Girls aged 8-17 can even take part in an exploration flight alongside a pilot (limited spots available).
