It is our pleasure and honoured to congratulations Deqa Nur receiving the YWCA Toronto’s 2025 Woman of Distinction Award Recipients. For her work, contributions advocacy for social justice, economic inclusion and local, community driven decision-making.
A proud Somali-Canadian herself, she saw women specially mothers in my community struggling, often overlooked and unable to find supportive services and programs that met their needs. In response, she founded Hooyo Innovation Hub - Hooyo ihub (“Hooyo” meaning “mother” in Somali), an organization dedicated to helping Somali-Canadian mothers and women build strong social and economic development a future for themselves and their families through capacity building programming.
