Canadian Slovenian Historical Society Preserve records of Slovenian immigration, cultural heritage and continued contributions in Canada

The Canadian Slovenian Historical Society (CSHS) was an idea formed in 2002, by Mr. Stane Kranjc, who wanted to pay homage to our emigrating ancestors so our heritage would be preserved. In 2003, a committee was formed and the Canadian Slovenian Historical Society, Kanadsko Slovensko Zgodovinsko Društvo was created. Over the years numerous Slovenian-Canadians have joined together to work on projec

ts that will ensure that our history will count in the history of Canada. The CSHS is fully recognized by the Archives Association of Ontario and Canadian Oral History Associations. Our logo is the linden leaf and the maple leaf, interwoven together to represent our strong ties to each country. Our vision is to preserve the records of Slovenian immigration, cultural heritage and continued contributions to Canada and to establish the legacy of Canadian-Slovenians for future generations. Our mission is to archive and preserve the history of Slovenian immigration, its evolutionary heritage and contributions to Canada. Historical evidence and the contributions of Slovenian-Canadians to their community and Canada, are being collected and preserved at the CSHS Archives, which is located in Dom Lipa. Here, thousands of letters, documents, artifacts, newspapers, books, oral history, records and much more is stored for future generations. Each is carefully preserved and documented to ensure the Slovenian immigrants are not forgotten and to ensure students, historians, scholars and Canadians have access to the past. The CSHS continues to grow and foster this legacy, preserving our history, and expanding our objectives for the current and future generations. The current board members and volunteers of the Canadian Slovenian Historical Society can be located on our website: http://www.slovenianhistorical.ca/committee.html. If you would like to participate in our meetings, help in the preservation of our society, donate or have a story to share please send us an email through either Facebook messenger or [email protected]. Follow us for more information about the CSHS and about our activities.

Wow, what an amazing turn out last week! Thank you to all who came to our first Drop-In Social, with Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal , on Friday, June 12. We hope you had a great time! ☺️

We had over 60 people who came, some all the way from Thunder Bay, to stop by and converse, with, of course, some tasty refreshments. We are so grateful for the overwhelming attendance and lively atmosphere you all created! ❤️

With such a successful day, we received some great insights to organize another one!
Stay tuned!

On Sunday, April 26 we hosted our 5th annual luncheon and short program, featuring our latest documentary “Slovenians in Canada II; Establishing Communities”.

This event was meticulously organized to highlight our Slovenian heritage in Canada, from the carefully crafted display table by our board members, to the wine and florist chosen for this event, both businesses, Flat Rock Cellars and Champagne Floral Designs , having Slovenian roots!

With over 320 guests, we are truly appreciative of each and every one of you for joining us and supporting us. Special thanks to Ambassador Andrej Medica, Honorary Consul General John Doma and Margaret Doma and, of course, CEO Andrew Rovansek from Moya Financial, one of our sponsors, for attending our event. 😊

Your attendance, enthusiasm and energy made the day more memorable and truly special for us. These events help us connect with you and share our passion and vision of preserving and strengthening our Slovenian roots in Canada. 🇸🇮🇨🇦

We hope to see you again at our next luncheon! ❤️

Such a colourful morning this Palm Sunday/Cvetna Nedelja. 💐
Butarice are a beautiful Slovenian tradition, each one unique in its design and creation. Made with greenery, p***y willows, flowers, and ribbons, I’m sure it takes a lot of patience to make. ❤️
