Thank you to everyone who joined us and supported our first-ever High Park Hikeathon! Together, we explored the globally rare Black Oak Savannah and discovered some of the diverse flora and fauna that call High Park home.

Your participation made a real difference: helping us raise funds for our Happy Camper Fund, which ensures that more children can access meaningful nature experiences in High Park, regardless of financial barriers, through free or subsidized programs.

A special thank you to our generous in-kind supporters: Craig's Cookies Bloor West for their delicious cookies, Fruit Suite for the fresh bananas, apples, and tangerines, and Print Three Yonge-Eglinton for the fantastic stickers!

It’s and something is hidden in the reeds. 👀

Nesting in the many reeds dotting the shoreline, these territorial animals are fierce parents, often dive bombing people and animals alike.

Have you seen this bird before? 🔴🐥

Nesting in the wetlands, is a beautiful female red winged black bird. If you look closely at the wings, you’ll see red too! These birds are extremely territorial, so if you’re walking through the wetlands, be careful!

🐢💚 Happy World Turtle Day! 💚🐢

Today, we’re celebrating the incredible turtles of Ontario and Tkaronto — and our dedicated friends at Turtle Protectors , who work tirelessly to keep them safe. 🙌

Protecting turtles does more than support species at risk — it helps strengthen the health of wetlands, one of our most vital ecosystems in the fight against climate change. 🌿

But nesting season is full of challenges. From busy roads and development to pollution, litter, and discarded fishing gear, native turtles must navigate countless human-caused threats to survive and return safely to the water.

Together, we can change that. By taking simple actions, we can help ensure Ontario’s native turtles have a real chance to thrive for generations to come. Let’s share the land responsibly and do our part to protect these ancient, essential, at-risk species.

🚨 See a turtle in distress, nesting, or crossing a road?
Call the Turtle Protectors Hotline: 647-491-4057

Every small action matters. Every protected nest means more hatchlings reaching the water and healthier wetlands for all. 🐢💚

It’s the and this years theme revolves around acting locally for global impact. 🌎💚

It’s very easy to get swept up in feelings of grief, loneliness and climate anxiety with all the weather and other ecological events happening globally. While it can seem very hard to break out of these feelings, there are some things you can do to help yourself and help the local environment including community science projects and stewardship events.

Check out our upcoming community science and stewardship events including weedy Wednesdays.

Here’s the final of High Park’s three Sakura species — Kwanzan, also known as Fugenzo. 🌸🌸🌸

Scattered around Cherry Blossom Hill or Hatchling Hill, and a few quieter corners of the park, these late-season blossoms are a rare treat. In Japan, they’re often called Sato-zakura, or “village cherries.”

First planted in High Park in 2001, Kwanzan trees are known for their lush, frilly petals and vibrant pink hue, offering a striking contrast to the more familiar and popular Yoshino blossoms.
