A huge thank you to Mattagami First Nation for welcoming Walking Forward Together to your Annual Powwow! 💛

Our members had such a great day celebrating, connecting with community, supporting vendors, and enjoying the powwow.

Two of our co-founders had booths set up and had an amazing day, and Sierra will be back again tomorrow!

Our co-founder Kendrick Jeremiah from Missanabie Cree First Nation also danced every chance he got. 🪶

Miigwech Mattagami First Nation for having us and for such a beautiful day! We’re grateful to have been part of it.

Walking Forward Together is gathering questions, concerns, resources, and community feedback about the proposed Cybersecurity Monitoring and Data Centre in Sault Ste. Marie.

Many important details have not yet been made public, including water use and cooling, environmental impacts, noise, power requirements, future expansion, data ownership, and more.

🔥 Join us tonight for Conversations Around the Fire! 🔥

Come sit with us, visit, connect, and have some good conversations around the fire tonight at Missanabie Cree First Nation!

🌭 We have some wieners to roast
🔥 Marshmallows for the fire
🪵 Please bring your own roasting sticks if you can! We can help cut them if needed.

We’ll also have information pamphlets about Walking Forward Together and handouts about Bill 5 for anyone who wants to learn more.

Have questions about Walking Forward Together, Bill 5, youth advocacy, or something else? We’re open to chatting about that too! Come ask questions, share your thoughts, or just hang out around the fire with us.

Tonight, we gathered around the fire in Missanabie Cree First Nation and asked everyone who came to sit with us a simple question:

“What’s your favourite thing about being on the land?”

The answers were simple, but they say so much: being with family, fishing, canoeing, swimming, sharing food, and simply feeling more like ourselves.

These are the conversations we want to make space for with Walking Forward Together. Sitting around the fire, sharing stories, listening to one another, and remembering why our lands, waters, families, and communities matter so deeply.

Walking Forward Together is heading to Mattagami First Nation!

Come find us at the Mattagami Powwow on August 15th and 16th to learn more about our movement, the work we are doing, and how Indigenous youth can get involved.

We will be sharing information and resources about Bill 5, Bill C-5, and how these decisions may impact Indigenous youth, our communities, lands, waters, and future.

Stop by our table to visit, ask questions, share your thoughts, and connect with us. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

Walking Forward Together is growing, and we’re looking for youth from across Treaty 9 territory who want to join our grassroots youth movement!

Whether you’re interested in leadership, culture, land-based learning, community action, harm reduction, advocacy, organizing, art, social media, or want to learn and get involved, there is a place for you here.

You don’t need formal experience or to have everything figured out. Bring your ideas, culture, creativity, lived experience, skills, and willingness to learn. Together, we can create opportunities for youth to connect, grow, lead, and take action in our communities.

These are currently volunteer, unpaid positions as we continue growing and seek funding.
