It’s that time of the year again that every snowmobiler hates, when the trails close for the season. It has truly been a season to remember. The trails were open for 17 weeks this season, starting in December and extending into April.
When the snow started to fall, it didn’t stop. On several occasions this season too much snow was received at once making grooming very difficult. Our groomers needed to re-pack trails; snowplows were getting stuck and the City of Timmins pretty much shut down for several days after receiving the record-breaking snowfall.
Our grooming crew really stepped up this season. They put in hundreds of hours (most during the night) to ensure our trails set-up perfect for riders to enjoy the following day. They also stepped up to support our neighboring clubs and helped them deal with the excessive amount of snow and breakdowns. With support from our volunteer crew of mechanics, they were able to keep everything running smoothly the entire season. Although we were down a groomer for almost a month waiting for parts, they kept the other two in good working order to ensure they could take on the extra hours of grooming.
Our volunteer support this season was unreal! Every time we put up a request, had a project to complete or trail work that needed to be done, a group of volunteers were there. We had great turnouts, lots of fun getting the work done and Noel’s trail side barbecues became famous. Thank you to everyone that came out and supported us on the trails this season!
We cannot thank our sponsors enough! The support we receive from our local businesses is awesome. From donations of parts, services, equipment or in-kind contributions, they are always there to support our team. We will continue to make posts through the summer months to ensure they get the recognition they deserve. Please ensure to support these businesses during the offseason.
With over 600 parcels of land that our trail system crosses, our landowners play a very important role ensuring the success of our trails. From large mining companies to private individuals, they all give permission to use their land for snowmobiling. We cannot thank you enough and without them, there would be no trails.
Behind the scenes, on the trails and even in groomers our executive team really stepped up this season. Many obstacles were overcome early in the season and many problems were resolved during the season to ensure once the trails opened, they stayed open. Although the season does wind down, the work does not. Planning is already started to ensure we can get several projects completed during the summer months.
Finally, thank you to everyone who purchased a trail permit. This supports our club, buys groomers, fuel, parts and ensures the success of snowmobiling. Thank you for coming up to our District, supporting our community and riding our trails this season. Please enjoy the summer, stay safe and we cannot wait to see everyone back on the trails next season!
