Our first Yellow Fish Road Presentation and Marking Event was a success!

Yesterday, Grade 2 students from W. Earle Miller Public School learned that water entering storm drains is not treated before reaching local waterways. They also explored the different types of contaminants that can impact water quality and harm people, fish, wildlife, and vegetation, as well as simple actions everyone can take to help protect our water resources.

Our young water stewards then put their knowledge into action by marking storm drains along Reg Pope Boulevard, Graye Crescent, and Simone Court, and distributing fish-shaped door hangers to nearby residents to help raise awareness about protecting our waterways.

A big thank you to Ms. Mackey and Ms. Singh for welcoming our team into your classroom and supporting this important environmental education initiative!

Did you know❓
Fish Prefer Their Water Soap-Free

As the temperatures warm up and we are beginning to enjoy the local beach areas, we remind everyone to keep help our water clean.

You may love your shampoo, but fish, frogs, insects, and aquatic plants don't. Even biodegradable soaps can damage lake ecosystems. 🐟🦆

Enjoy the lakes. Don't use them as a bathtub. Clean water starts with all of us. 💧

June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada, a time to recognize the rich history, heritage and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis.

As we spend time on the land and waters that sustain our communities, we acknowledge the enduring connection Indigenous Peoples have maintained with these places. We encourage everyone to take time this month to listen, learn, and deepen their understanding of Indigenous histories and perspectives.

The Drinking Water Source Protection Lead and members of the Mattagami Region Source Protection Committee were recently back at Timmins High & Vocational School for another exciting Drinking Water Source Protection Trivia event!

It's always rewarding to see students absorb the information shared during our water education programs and then put their knowledge to the test in a fun and interactive way. The participating students demonstrated excellent understanding of drinking water source protection and enthusiastically engaged in the trivia activities.

A big thank you to Mr. Andrews and Mr. Kazienko for welcoming our team into their classrooms and supporting this important water education initiative. We appreciate the opportunity to help students learn about the importance of protecting our drinking water sources.
