The Foundation supports children and youth by providing camping opportunities for young persons who are either in foster care, receiving child protection or mental health services, or whose parents cannot afford to send their children to camp. The Foundation also offers post-secondary bursaries and funding for recreational activities to youth residing in foster care, receiving child welfare servic
es, or who are overcoming mental health challenges. Further, the Foundation provides financial assistance to families to cover extraordinary costs for the care of children with complex special needs when all other public avenues have been exhausted. The North Eastern Ontario (NEO) Children’s Foundation also raises funds to support innovative and urgently-needed programs and services that are not government-funded for North Eastern Ontario Family and Children’s Services (NEOFACS), such as the Back to School, Children's Mental Health Week and annual holiday toy drive programs. Rather, it depends on the generosity of individuals, corporations and proceeds raised from various fundraising activities. History of the Foundation:
The North Eastern Ontario Children’s Foundation was originally established in 1979 as the Porcupine and District Children’s Foundation with a mandate to provide financial support to children and youth involved in services at the former Porcupine and District Children’s Aid Society (PDCAS). In 2000, the Children’s Foundation’s scope expanded when the former CAS amalgamated with South Cochrane Child & Youth Services to form Child & Family Services of Timmins and District (CFSTD). In 2012, the Foundation once again evolved and expanded as CFSTD amalgamated with its sister agencies in the north (Services familiaux Jeanne Sauvé Family Services) and the south (Timiskaming Child and Family Services) to form North Eastern Ontario Family and Children’s Services (NEOFACS). Charitable Registration:
The North Eastern Ontario Children’s Foundation is a registered charity (Charitable Registration Number 890061062RR0001).
