🚨 Violence Against Municipal Workers Must Stop 🚨

Two weeks ago, a snowplow operator in Peterborough – a member of CUPE 504 – was physically assaulted while they were doing their job. This is completely unacceptable.

Municipal workers are out in extreme conditions. While many can hunker down in bad weather, they maintain roads, clear snow, repair infrastructure, and ensure essential public services operate safely. This winter has seen record setting snowfalls across the province and throughout it all, CUPE members have been hard at work.

Snowplow operators have been harassed, intimidated, and assaulted. Too often, this kind of violence has been shrugged off in the past – but workers should never have to worry about their safety while serving the public.

Let’s be clear:
· Violence and harassment against workers cannot be tolerated
· Interfering with municipal operations puts the entire community at risk
· Municipal workers deserve safety, dignity, and respect

To our members across Ontario: you are not alone in this fight. Report any incidents of harassment to your employer and involve your local throughout the process.

We’re a union that fights for better – and that includes worker safety.

To the public: respect municipal workers who keep our cities running.
