Port Arthur Rotary had a Sailing Social Night! ⛵️

Fellowship is something that we value in Rotary, and we celebrated the beginning of the 2026-2027 Rotary Year by gathering at the Marina, catching up with other Rotarians, and sailing on the great waters of Lake Superior!

Thank you to Chris and Sue Bailey for organizing such a wonderful social night! Thank you to other sailors who offered their boat and volunteered their time to take us sailing - some for the first time! 🤩
(Please tag them below!)

We are People of Action, and we are excited to take on the 2026-2027 Rotary Year by creating our own or getting involved in volunteering initiatives that create a difference and make a lasting impact in the local community here in Thunder Bay, and also the world!

We look forward to sharing all of the work that we do! If you’re interested in joining us and learning about what Rotary has to offer for you, please reach out to us via email at [email protected] 📲

July marks the end of the 2025-2026 Rotary Year, and we’d like to congratulate Outgoing President Hector Dougall for his leadership! 👏

When (now) Past President Hector Dougall chaired his first Club meeting, he made his main goal clear: Believe in the skills, experience, and knowledge that each members of Port Arthur Rotary bring to the Club.

Hector provided guidance and shared his expertise to the committees within the Club. He encouraged and motivated members in their service work. He implemented ideas and feedback into furthering our steps into truth and reconciliation. He believed in all of Rotarians, which contributed to an excellent Rotary Year 💙💛

Port Arthur Rotary’s unpaid service work within the 2025-2026 year had impact locally and internationally.

Some examples of the Club’s service work are:
👉 supporting the construction of medical clinics, schools, water reservoirs, over 1,900km of roads, and more in Bolivia (spearheaded by Dr. Marg Woods)
👉 providing scholarships for graduating, local high school students
👉 supporting environmental and community development initiatives through the Thunder Bay Rotary Environmental Action Team and the Waterfront Trail Rotary Community Action Team
👉 sponsoring local youths in attending school internationally to immerse themselves in other cultures, new languages, and become global citizens
👉 providing financial support to over 20 local organizations (through our Allocations Committee and fundraisers)
👉 and more!

Congratulations, Hector! Your impact is seen by all, and we thank you for your leadership and for believing in us! 👏

One of the greatest things about joining Port Arthur Rotary is that you become a part of a global network and get to visit & learn from other Rotary clubs in over 220 countries!

Past President Warren Philp is on a trip with Baseball Canada, and he made two stops: in Pennsylvania and at State College Sunrise Rotary’s meeting this week!

Warren spoke about what we do in Port Arthur Rotary, and he also highlighted our efforts with the Waterfront Trail Rotary Community Action Team, where he is the Project Lead in!

Thank you to State College Sunrise Rotary for hosting and sharing the great work that you all do! You all have an open invitation to visiting our Club meetings, and we’d love to show you the beauty of Thunder Bay when you’re here 🇨🇦

At our Club meeting yesterday, Andrei Rosario spoke to fellow Rotarians about the Moose Hide Campaign 👈

The Moose Hide Campaign began as a BC-born Indigenous-led grassroots movement to engage men and boys in ending violence towards women and children. It has since grown into a nationwide movement of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians who are all committed to taking action to end gender-based violence.

The campaign is grounded in Indigenous ceremony and traditional ways of learning and healing. A cornerstone of the campaign is the moose hide pin — it signifies your commitment and support to Canada’s Journey of Reconciliation.

In Rotary, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change. With our involvement in the campaign, we are promoting peace — one of Rotary’s core values.

With the national campaign day happening tomorrow on May 14, 2026, Andrei distributed moose hide pins to Club members so they can wear it and join the campaign. He recommended to wear them on the left side of your chest so it’s closer to your heart ❤️

We’d like to thank Matt Richer from Ontario Native Women's Association (ONWA) for providing the pins 🙌

You can get moose hide pins at no cost by contacting Thunder Bay Moose Hide Campaign, and you can find more information about the campaign by going to www.moosehidecampaign.ca 📲

When community gets together, we make a bigger and positive impact! 💙💛

Spring was just starting to show along the Neebing McIntyre Floodway on April 25...and so did the community.

Members of Fort William Rotary, Port Arthur Rotary, and Lakehead Rotary Club joined TBay REAcT for the Rotary Great Lakes Watershed Cleanup.

Gloves on, bags open, and no rush. Just neighbors working side by side, caring for a place they all share. 🌿

We had a Club outing last night to highlight and celebrate the new members of Port Arthur Rotary! ⚙️

Since 2024, over a dozen of community champions joined the Club and many fresh, unique perspectives and talents were introduced in the community service work that we do.

Currently, there are over 60 members of Port Arthur Rotary. Andrei Rosario is one of the new members, and he shared a speech to the Club about his experiences:

“… Joining Rotary a year after I graduated college, I felt scared at first… but then I started to get involved in the community service initiatives that Rotary organized locally, and I felt welcomed… I was met with open arms from people who I didn’t share the same social, employment, or educational status with. That didn’t matter. I was taken at face value, and fellow Rotarians believed in me and my passion in making positive changes in our community.”

Andrei also shared that he’s proud of the amazing Rotarians that he gets to make positive changes with. “I can confidently say that I’ll be a lifelong Rotarian,” he said.

Thank you to Andraya Colistro (Rotarian) for organizing a successful gathering, and thank you to Lakehead Beer Company for hosting us in your wonderful venue! 🙌
