Yes - we are including this call for images and thoughts in the Northwest Climate Gathering this year: a photovoice!
Starting now: in the days leading up to that October 17 free, community get-together at LU's the Outpost.

Here is my first entry:

This is Agrimony. A native plant you might mistake for stinging nettle but it doesn't sting and has this yellow shaft of flowers in early summer.
I see a native plant in the city, holding its own against the settler & invasive plants & lawn grass.

I am told Agrimony helps solve difficult problems and calm emotional conflicts.

I think our community needs the healing of Agrimony to help us find and realize visions to unite us in collaborative connections.

Solving this polycrisis is long, complicated work.
More native plants in our urban green spaces will help.
(Among many, many other things)

We need all the help we can get!

A study of access to cycling in Montreal, Vancouver, and Victoria. Who is up for some citizen research in Thunder Bay? Active Transportation is our 2026 theme!

Researchers found that neighbourhoods with more children, older adults and racialized people were usually further away from bike infrastructure.

From Katharine Hayhoe, Canadian climate scientist working in Texas [for now].

"People often assume that talking about climate change is controversial. But research keeps finding the opposite: most people support climate action—they just don’t realize most other people do too.

A landmark study in 2024 found that across 125 countries, people consistently under-estimated how much their fellow citizens cared. Why? Because hardly anyone is talking about it. And if you don’t talk about it, how would anyone know that you cared? Your friends, family, neighbours and colleagues are not mind readers!

That’s why it’s such great news that Japan’s news media is helping close that gap.

Inspired by Covering Climate Now’s 89 Percent Project, which in turn was inspired by the 2024 study above, news organizations across Japan are working together to remind people that 89% of Japanese people support stronger climate action. Through TV announcements and daily social media posts, the campaign is running through the end of the year, encouraging more people to start talking about climate change."

The Climate Gathering's Stone Soups are taking a summer break, but you can talk climate change below, you can plan on coming to the 4th Annual Climate Gathering on October 17th, 10-3 pm, The Outpost (Lakehead campus), and you can almost certainly talk to anyone in Thunder Bay about it right now.

A beautiful morning in NWO -- should be a beautiful National Indigenous Peoples Day.

Today, June 21, we celebrate who we are — our languages, our traditions, our stories.

This day belongs to all of us — to the Elders who protect and share knowledge, the youth who carry our future, and the communities that hold us and our traditions together.

Our culture and traditions are not relics of the past — they are alive, they are growing, and they are ours to celebrate every day.

We dance, we gather, we remember, and we celebrate Indigenous Peoples.
