NEW PBSC PROJECTS!
On top of our wonderful returning partners, we are so excited to announce three NEW projects joining Lakehead’s PBSC chapter for the 2026–2027 academic year! 💙⚖️
1.Thunder Bay Multicultural Association (TBMA)
Established in 1972, TBMA provides settlement and community services to immigrants and refugees across Northwestern Ontario. PBSC student volunteers will support TBMA by developing plain-language public legal education resources and delivering community information sessions on recent developments in immigration law affecting newcomers.
2. Grand Council Treaty #3 – Mutual Accountability Initiative (MAI)
Grand Council Treaty #3 represents 28 First Nation communities across Treaty #3 territory and works to protect, preserve, and enhance Treaty and Aboriginal rights. Students will conduct legal and policy research examining consultation, Indigenous rights, and regulatory approvals for development projects, helping support the implementation of the Mutual Accountability Initiative.
3.FIREFLY – Children’s Rights & Public Legal Education Project
FIREFLY is a children’s treatment centre serving communities throughout Northwestern Ontario. Student volunteers will support FIREFLY through public legal education and staff training initiatives focused on children’s rights and child protection. Students may work on training modules, social media campaigns, and infographics covering topics such as the duty to report, youth rights, consent and capacity, privacy, and child protection obligations.
We are incredibly excited to welcome these organizations to our PBSC chapter and to give Lakehead law students the opportunity to contribute to meaningful legal work in our communities. đź’™
