A big thank you to Jackie Knough, Executive Director of Our Kids Count, for joining Lakehead Rotary this morning and sharing more about the incredible work happening within our community.

From helping families access nutritious food and parenting support, to creating opportunities for children to learn, grow and feel connected, Our Kids Count has spent years building stronger families by meeting people where they are and offering a helping hand when it’s needed most.

It was a wonderful reminder that sometimes the biggest difference in a child’s life begins with simply making sure their family feels supported. Thank you, Jackie, for sharing your time, your stories and the heart behind Our Kids Count with us this morning. ❤️

Dolly Parton leaves behind a remarkable legacy, not only through her music, but through her belief in the power of literacy.

As Rotarians, we know how deeply education can change a life. Through her Imagination Library, Dolly helped put millions of books into the hands of children and inspired a love of reading around the world. A beautiful legacy of giving that will continue long beyond her passing.

Sometimes the biggest numbers tell a very human story.

During 2025-26, Rotary members, donors and supporters around the world raised more than US$477 million for The Rotary Foundation.

Those dollars become clean water, better health care, education, disaster relief, environmental projects and opportunities for peace. They helped fund thousands of Rotary grants and continued the fight against polio, reaching more than 350 million children in 28 countries.

It’s an incredible reminder that every donation, every project and every act of service becomes part of something much bigger.

Together, we are Doing Good in the World.

Some recognition means a little more when you know it belongs to everyone. Lakehead Rotary is incredibly honoured to receive Rotary International’s 2025-26 Club Excellence Award, the highest recognition a Rotary club can achieve.

We may be a small club, but we work closely, share the load, and turn the things we care about into action. This award belongs to every member who has ever said, “I can help with that,” and then rolled up their sleeves.

Sometimes hope arrives in a box.

Lakehead Rotary is proud to continue supporting ShelterBox Canada and its mission to provide emergency shelter and essential supplies to families affected by disaster and conflict around the world.

The recent devastating earthquake in Colombia is another reminder of just how quickly life can change. ShelterBox helps provide more than shelter. It offers dignity, security and the first steps toward rebuilding.

Lakehead Rotary is proud to continue its support of ShelterBox Canada, helping to provide comfort, dignity and hope when disaster changes everything.

Every year, Lakehead Rotary has the privilege of helping keep Terry Fox’s incredible legacy moving forward by organizing the annual Terry Fox Run - Thunder Bay, led by our own Don Morrison.

But this run has never really been about running. It’s about showing up. Walking, rolling, strolling, riding or running together to remind the next generation that Terry’s story still matters here in Thunder Bay.

This year, we’re putting out a simple challenge: participate.

And we’re officially challenging our friends at the Port Arthur Rotary, Fort William Rotary, and Rotaract Club of Thunder Bay to join us! Accept the challenge, rally your members, and invite Terry to your next meeting for a photo to show that your club is in.

Lakehead Rotary had the privilege of welcoming Richard Togman and Meagan Ross for a look at the future of the Thunder Bay Public Library - Waverley.

What stood out most wasn't just the beautiful design. It was the vision behind it.

Libraries have become so much more than places to borrow books. They are spaces where children discover, entrepreneurs create, families gather, cultures are celebrated, and neighbours connect. The reimagined Waverley centre will reflect the diversity of our community while honouring the rich Indigenous heritage that has shaped our region for generations.

As the library celebrates 75 years of serving Thunder Bay, this remarkable project is about investing in the next 75. It's a space designed to inspire curiosity, strengthen community, and ensure everyone has a place where they belong.

A great night at Port Arthur Stadium with fellow Rotarians. Baseball, good conversation, and time spent together outside of our regular meetings is just another reminder that Rotary is as much about friendship as it is about service.

There is something special about Northwestern Ontario. When one community is hurting, others don't stand by. They step forward.

The Lakehead Rotary Board is proud to support the Northwestern Ontario Wildfire Community Support Fund with a $5,000 donation. It's a small way to stand beside the families and communities whose lives have been turned upside down by wildfires this season.

The incredible response to this fund has been a reminder that kindness has no boundaries. People from across our region, Canada, the United States, and even Australia have come together to help our neighbours rebuild.
