A great morning of learning, inspiration and recognition at our Lakehead Rotary breakfast meeting last Thursday!
We were pleased to welcome Cos Graham, Recreational Therapist with the John Howard Society, who shared the impact of programming that helps individuals build new skills, confidence and pathways toward employment.
The program began five years ago with a simple but important idea: idle hands need opportunities to learn, contribute and grow. Today, with 39 in-house clients, hands-on programming is helping participants stay engaged while developing practical skills they can carry forward.
From cooking experiences in partnership with the RFDA to other activities focused on learning by doing, participation provides more than something to fill the day. It helps build confidence, supports employability and encourages clients to remain engaged in the program and their own progress.
We also had the opportunity to recognize two wonderful Rotarians for their contributions to our club. Audrey Halvorsen was presented with a plaque recognizing her leadership and service as Past President, and Tyler Pyle was recognized as our Rotarian of the Year. Congratulations and thank you to you both for your commitment to Rotary and our community!
A wonderful reminder of what can happen when we create pathways to new skills, new opportunities and a stronger community.
