Another three programs suspended. Another blow to our College community.

Confederation College has announced the suspension of three more programs, bringing the total number of suspended programs to 16.

For faculty and staff, these announcements aren’t just numbers on a spreadsheet. They mean fewer opportunities for students, increased uncertainty for employees, and continued pressure on the people who deliver the education our communities depend on.

The union understands the challenges facing the college sector, including changes to international student recruitment and inadequate public funding. But workers should not be expected to pay the price.

Our students deserve access to programs. Our communities deserve strong public colleges. And our members deserve good, permanent jobs.

THE WORK EXISTS. PERMANENT JOBS MATTER.

Local 732 has filed another grievance challenging the College’s administration of the Articles 28 & 29 Employment Stability process.

The College is calling for CESC to close on August 28, after two extensions of the original 30-day process.

Our position is clear:
- Local 732’s recommendations will NOT include layoff or displacement.
- We continue to identify work and opportunities that can support permanent employment — vacancies, expanding programs, online delivery, apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship, contract training, and continuing academic work.
- This is about stopping the continued erosion of permanent faculty work.

When permanent jobs disappear but the work remains, precarity grows for all of us.

Solidarity Wins ✊

Local 732 was proud to stand alongside this incredible crew during their fight. We saw firsthand the determination, solidarity and resolve they brought to the table. They kept showing up, stood together and held the line — and they got an agreement.

Congratulations to the entire local and to everyone who stood with them along the way. 💜✊

Their fight is a reminder to all of us: when workers stand together, we are stronger.

Our employers — and this government — would much rather see us divided. One local against another. Full-time against part-time. Workers fighting alone while everyone else watches from the sidelines.

We cannot let that happen.

When one group of workers is under attack, we all have a stake in the fight. When workers stand together, when our communities stand with us, and when locals support one another, we can change what is possible.

This is what solidarity looks like.

Earlier this year, we shared a GoFundMe organized by Marielle Lyon in support of her dad, Robert Lyon, a retired Local 732 member. We were grateful to see the incredible support and generosity of our community during that difficult time.

Between now and August 28, Local 732 will continue to challenge unnecessary job loss, expose available work, advance solutions and hold the College accountable.

We've just concluded our 5th day at the table with the CEC. We've been working hard developing language that supports members and addresses the active dismantling of our college system.

The CEC tabled their full non-monetary proposal, which includes 7 articles, and we have been told that their first two articles are in response to our proposals U1: Purpose and U2: Recognition.

Every job matters. Every member matters.
Our latest Employment Stability Bulletin is out - check your personal email! Local 732 continues to fight layoffs and demand that every reasonable opportunity to preserve full-time employment is exhausted.

But this fight is bigger than full-time faculty.
🚨 PT/SL BARGAINING — WE NEED TO GET BEHIND THEM
The College system continues to move academic work toward lower-cost, precarious labour. That hurts PT/SL faculty, erodes full-time work, and puts pressure on all of us. We will not allow the employer to divide academic workers by classification.

On August 19, the College Employer Council is expected to advance its full package of non-monetary proposals for PT/SL faculty.
