OPSEU/SEFPO CAAT-A Local 732 stands in solidarity with the Lakehead University Faculty Association (LUFA) as they face the possibility of a strike later this month.

LUFA members are fighting for a fair and just collective agreement that supports high-quality post-secondary education and strengthens opportunities for students and communities.

Supporting faculty means supporting:

* Smaller class sizes and more course options for students
* Innovative programs that respond to the evolving needs of today’s economy
* High-quality research and meaningful research opportunities for students
* The recruitment and retention of talented academic faculty
* Stronger communities and local economies through the positive impact of post-secondary education

A message from JP Hornick and Laurie Brown (formerly Nancekivell):

As we approach this year's National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30), OPSEU/SEFPO is calling out the Carney and Ford governments for rolling back their commitments to genuine reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.

With direction from the OPSEU/SEFPO Indigenous Circle, our union will continue to demonstrate our commitment to reconciliation by pushing for full implementation of the 94 calls to action that emerged from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

In tandem, OPSEU/SEFPO will continue to observe Orange Shirt Day and the importance of honouring survivors and victims of the devastating, multi-generational trauma caused by colonialism and the Canadian residential school system.
