On September 30, we were honoured to join the Obishikokaang as they gathered to commemorate Orange Shirt Day at Obishikokaang Elementary School in Frenchman’s Head. We were grateful to be part of this important gathering and to stand alongside the students, staff, families, and community members in keeping the spirit of Every Child Matters at the heart of the day.

We recently gathered for Photos Tell Our Stories gathering. Through photographs, memories, and shared stories, we took time to honor the experiences of Survivors and the stories that continue to be carried forward. Every photo has a story. Every story deserves to be remembered. Thank you to everyone who joined us and shared their time, memories, and knowledge.

WE NEED YOUR HELP – The Residential School Missing Children and Unmarked Graves Project is seeking information to help identify the parents or families of these missing children:

1) The children who perished in the Cross lake Residential fire on February 25, 1930:
• Emile Dumas, age 10
• Ila Moose, age 11
• Mary Ann Francois, age 14

2) One child died at Mackay - Fisher Island, The Pas on February 16, 1933:
• Janet Moose, age 13

This summer, we have used new technology called Terrestrial LiDAR, or Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS). This technology uses laser scanning to create detailed 3D maps of the land, helping our research team document the landscape, identify subtle changes in the ground, and better understand areas that may need further investigation.

The Initiative is creating a welcoming space for Survivors, families, and community members to share photographs that may hold important memories, connections, and stories that families wish to preserve and pass on for future generations.

This gathering is an opportunity to share at your own comfort level, honour personal experiences, and contribute to the preservation of community history and the Initiative’s research and archives.
