Calling Thunder Bay employers and entrepreneurs! 📣

Did you know that October is Disability Employment Awareness Month, or DEAM? 🤔

To celebrate Disability Employment Awareness Month, we are hosting an Employer Roundtable for open, practical conversations about inclusive hiring and supporting employees with disabilities.

We'll cover questions employers actually have, including accommodations, disability disclosure, creating accessible workplaces, supporting employees when you’re already at capacity, and more.

This is a space to ask questions, share experiences, learn from one another, and talk honestly about both the successes and challenges of disability inclusion in the workplace.

This is a great first step on your journey to be an awesome employer for staff (or customers) with disabilities!

Last week, Jennie and Lindsay attended the EmployNext Leadership Summit, hosted right here in Thunder Bay!

We had a great time hearing success stories from other Service Providers, sharing ideas, and connecting in person with so many people we usually only see virtually.

It’s always great to learn from others doing this work and build stronger connections across the employment services community! 🎉

Our Centre will be closed to the public tomorrow as our team takes part in education and reflection surrounding residential schools and their ongoing impacts.

As part of this learning, we will consider how we can better support our community through our work, including education on the history of residential schools in our area, examining our policies, forms, programs, and activities through a lens of reconciliation, inclusion, and respect.

Our Centre will reopen to the public on October 1st.

Sharing tonight at 5PM!!! 👀👀👀

Our friends at HAGI are hosting a Mayoral Candidate Roundtable, where candidates will be asked important questions about the barriers people with disabilities face in our community every day.

We encourage anyone who is interested to attend and hear what the candidates have to say!

And if you’d like a familiar face to sit with, some of the ILRC staff will be there too. We’d be happy to have you join us!

Tomorrow afternoon! 🎉🎉

Join Emily to explore what professional appearance can look like across different types of employment! Traditional ideas of “professionalism” are often shaped by ableist expectations, which may not reflect the needs, abilities or communication styles of people with disabilities. We’ll talk about challenging these expectations, navigating workplace norms, and defining what professionalism can look like for you.
