The MNO and Lands, Resources and Consultations’ (LRC) Environment and Climate Change team is pleased to invite MNO citizens to attend a Virtual Climate Change Forum held on November 7th, 2026 from 1:00PM to 4:00PM (EST).

The theme of the forum is "Natural Climate Solutions (NCS)" where citizens will learn how nature supports climate mitigation, and how you can work with nature to help reduce and adapt to the effects of climate change…all while supporting biodiversity! The forum will be informative and interactive, featuring presentations and guest speakers addressing natural climate solutions, and practical ways to respond to the impacts of climate change. The event will include an activity with amazing prizes!

This free online workshop offers a supportive space to learn grounding and mindfulness techniques that can help you manage stress, reconnect, and find calm after experiencing trauma or past violence.

Attention current Métis post-secondary students! This is a reminder that applications for the 2026-27 PSE Travel Support Program are still open. Please note that funds are limited. Bursary Program:

The Métis Student Bursary Program is now open! Eligible Métis students at 43 Ontario post-secondary institutions can apply each fall following registration. Deadlines vary by school; recipients are announced in winter.

Verified MNO citizen
Enrolled in a partner institution
Canadian citizen or permanent resident
Ontario resident for 12+ months
Financial need

PSE Student Book Giveaway:

Calling all Métis post-secondary students! We want to hear from you! Record a short video (30–60 seconds) sharing what you love most about your campus and why you're proud to be Métis. Five standout submissions will be selected to receive a book by a Métis author, and all videos will be featured and celebrated as part of an upcoming media project.

There is a George Brown College Open House taking place on Tuesday, October 13 from 6:00–8:00 p.m. (virtual).

This event is a great opportunity for anyone considering post-secondary education and interested in learning more about the programs and opportunities available at George Brown College.

On September 30th, we gathered for the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation at Maple Meadows Farm in Port Colborne. It was a time to gather in community, to listen and reflect on what this day means to Métis people. Thank you to Senator Jean-Jacques for the prayers, to our speakers Mayor Bill Steele, President Pont and Ryan Schubert, Associate Director of Self-Government at the Métis Nation of Ontario. Thank you to dignitary MPP Jeff Burch, citizens and guests for joining us. We enjoyed a shared meal with traditional fiddle music performed by one of our youth, Braxton.

Truth can take generations to be acknowledged. Survivors carried their experiences long before governments were prepared to recognize them. Some spent decades asking Canada simply to acknowledge what happened to them. Their persistence reminds us that reconciliation cannot be measured only by apologies or commemorative days. It must also be measured by our willingness to listen when Survivors tell us truths that institutions have historically refused to hear.

When we wear orange on this day, it is not simply a colour of solidarity. It comes from the experience of a six year-old child. Phyllis Webstad arrived at residential school proudly wearing a new orange shirt her grandmother had bought for her. It was taken from her and never returned. The orange shirt has come to symbolize what the residential school system tried to take from children — their dignity, their identity, their families, their languages and their sense that they mattered. When we say Every Child Matters, we affirm precisely what that system denied.

A few highlights from the 2026 Powley Day Regional Rendezvous which occurred on September 19th, 2026. Council set up the encampment and helped citizens from all over the region to make their own bannock over the fire. It was a great day of culture and connection. Next year the AGA will be held here at Guelph Lakes Conservation Area.

Together we'll plant trees donated by the Niagara Region Métis Council and help enhance our local environment and wildlife habitat. 🌱
