The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) Urban Portage Challenge is back, and with exciting news!

Métis Family Wellbeing Coordinators are organizing a 2-month walking competition to see which community can collectively walk the most steps. We are inviting you to join us and bring your 4-legged friends along for the challenge!

Each community will be guided by a Métis Family Wellbeing Coordinator Champion who will help organize and motivate participants. The top three communities with the highest step counts will receive funds to host a celebration. Each participant will also have opportunities within their community to win individual prizes.

Mobility looks different for everyone, so please participate in the way that feels right for you. Steps can be tracked using a Fitbit, pedometer, smartphone app, or the health section on your phone.

Walk with us toward healthier, more connected Métis communities.

To register or for more information, please contact Lauren Curtas at (905) 714-2149 or [email protected].

The Métis Nation of Ontario's Early Learning and Child Care team invites educators to join an upcoming professional development workshop on Oct. 28, 2026 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. EST exploring the benefits of woodworking in early learning environments.

Discover how woodworking can help young children build creativity, problem-solving skills, fine motor development, confidence, and independence through hands-on learning. Participants will learn how children can safely use real tools in supportive environments while exploring practical tips on safety, materials, and outdoor woodworking experiences.

You are cordially invited to attend this event to honour the residential school survivors and remember the children who never came home.

If anyone has a personal story to share, we would love for you to speak at this event. If so, please reach out to: [email protected]

We encourage citizens to wear their orange shirts in support of the annual movement inspired by Phyllis Webstad, whose new orange shirt was taken away on her first day at an Indian residential school. There will be a number of orange shirts given to those who attend this event.

We look forward to gathering with you.
