It's the final week of Leave a Legacy Month. Have you thought about how you want to be remembered?

For many people, their children and grandchildren are their legacy.
Wills and estate plans are meant to ensure loved ones are cared for - as they should.
But what if we can do more?

You can offset your income taxes AND choose where and how you support the community with charitable gifts in your will.

Here's how to create a legacy that goes beyond:
1. Think about the values that are important to your life and ideals for which you want to be remembered. Choose charities that fit those values.
2. Speak to your family about your values and intentions.
3. Ask your financial advisor to include a charitable gift as part of your estate plan.
4. Consider a gift of a percentage of your assets to your favorite cause(s).

Where would we be without bees? 🐝

On May 20 each year, we celebrate to raise awareness about the essential role pollinators play in our lives and the need to protect them.

Important pollinator facts:
- More than 75% of the world’s food crops depend on pollinators (including Niagara grapes and orchards!)
- Close to 35% of pollinators, particularly bees and butterflies, face extinction globally.
πŸ¦‹ 🐜 🐞

What can you do?
- include a diverse set of native plants in your garden
- avoid using pesticides, fungicides or herbicides
- make a bee water station using a shallow dish with some rocks
- volunteer at a local pollinator garden to help it thrive
- help fund new pollinator gardens and native tree plantings; support conservation in your area.

What's YOUR legacy?

Edna Comfort left a legacy in the form of the Comfort Maple.
Believed to be more than 500 years old, the old-growth sugar maple was accepted for preservation by NPCA on April 30, 1961.

Marv Ens carries on that legacy in creating beautiful pens from fallen branches of the Comfort Maple (available for purchase at npcf.ca).

Shirley Lazareth has made a lasting impact through her poem about the tree, shared with local schools in celebration of Canada's 150th birthday.

Shirley and Marv joined Sharon Pfeifer from NPCF at the Comfort Maple to celebrate the 65th anniversary and to mark Leave a Legacy Month.

You can create your own lasting impact for future generations by including NPCF in your estate plan. Nature for all, for always.
And a charitable gift can offset your income taxes. Talk to your financial planner today.

has come and gone, but the need to respect and protect nature is ever-present. As Dr. Suzuki says, without nature, we could not exist.
