The Barefoot Ranch: Manitoba Horse Rescue & Sanctuary Rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming unwanted, abused, abandoned, and neglected horses, and providing long-term sanctuary to those who need it.

The Barefoot Ranch is located four miles North of Teulon, MB. It is a 120-acre parcel of land that is well treed, featuring natural as well as man-made water sources. It is the perfect piece of land for horses. We have been at this location since 2012. Soon after moving here, we started to notice a need to provide a sanctuary in the area for horses. There were multiple circumstances that arose tha

t brought many horses in need to us. We began with the thought of rehabilitating the horses and selling them to recoup our expenses, but that was a short-lived dream. In 2016 we decided to incorporate to make our organization more official. Over the past few years, we have rescued over 40 horses. Look at this handsome fella! Not sure if any of you remember this big, beautiful boy. With us his name was Ben. We drove all the way to Thompson, MB to pick him up and what an adventure we had!

By the time we got there we had lost about 1/4 of our horse trailer floor because of the crazy roads. Good thing we had some amazing helpers, some wood and a saw available. We rebuilt the remaining floor, loaded Ben and Gunner and drove all the way home.

Ben was with us for a few months and then hit the jackpot when Jasmine Blatz happened to spot him while delivering hay. She fell in love, adopted him and he was then dubbed Ghost. He has become such a well loved member of her family, her little boy pulls grass and puts it in his Tonka dump truck and rolls it backwards under the fence. Ghost patiently eats the it, then pushes the track back under the fence with his nose for more.

This is what rescue is all about! I wish every one of them lucked out with an amazing home like this. Thank you Jasmine for giving this gentle giant such an incredible second chance.

On June 1st, five of our rescue horses will be receiving their spring wellness care, including vaccinations, deworming, and full health checkups. The estimated cost is approximately $300 per horse. 🐴

Providing proper medical care is such an important part of giving these horses the healthy, safe future they deserve, but the expenses add up quickly for a small rescue like The Barefoot Ranch.
