One small change produced a surprisingly big shift in restraining bar usage. In our 2023–2024 pilot with Sun Peaks Resort, proper usage jumped from 20% to 65%, cutting exposure to fall risk by 85%.

What was the intervention, and how was it tested? Read our article below to learn more:

Thank you to everyone who came out this weekend to support us!

Our ribbon cutting ceremony was a great success, with speeches from our very own Bart DeFreitas, as well as General Manager, Christian Théberge, and Ian Humphrey's close friend, Randy Fowler. We deeply appreciated everyone's heartfelt words, and everyone coming out to celebrate this project.

Another big thanks to Shames Mountains patroller for facilitating some tree well training! It's always wonderful to see a huge turn out of people learning mountain safety skills.

In honour of our 50th anniversary celebration and ribbon cutting for the new Humphrey Hut today, here's some fun facts about our group!

We've operated at since December 1990 - 35 years ago!

The team is generally comprised of 18-21 volunteers certified annually in advanced first aid and mountain rescue techniques!💪

Every season we deliver >2,200 volunteer hours - saving MMC >$40,000/yr in wages!

Our current team has >100 years of combined professional patrolling experience! ⛷️

Every year we host the annual Skeena Ski and Board Swap in partnership with

Our group is supported by a registered non-profit society called the Skeena Volunteer Ski Patrol Society that spends >$20,000/yr on rescue equipment, first aid supplies, training and injury prevention initiatives!

The CSP Skeena Zone is a well established group of strong ladies and gents! We've been working hard for 50 years to keep everyone safe while they're out snow sliding. Come say hi and ask some questions! We'll have a booth set up at the base today with some goodies!🍰

We would like to kindly remind our guests that use of the safety bar is required on our lift. This is for your safety as well as the right example to display to others.

This snow slump hasn't gotten our team down! Making the best of it by freshening up our training on the slopes.

We've been prioritizing some training like toboggan training, and transceiver training (make sure to utilize that beacon park up there!). Check out these stellar photos of our teams at work!

We have some more exciting news planned for this weekend so stay tuned for details!

If you were taking a break at the top T yesterday between powder laps ⛷️ you might've noticed our newest addition, the Humphrey Hut!

The Humphrey Hut replaces the old top T "shack" for lift operators and ski patrollers ⛑️. It's named after Ian Humphrey, a local Shames mountain legend. In his time at Shames Mountain he was General Manager, Maintenance Manager, Ski Patrol Director, and member of Canadian Ski Patrol. He was instrumental in the transition between Shames Mountain Ski Corp and My Mountain Co-op.

Outside of Shames Mountain, Ian Humphrey was involved with public safety initiatives with Canadian Ski Patrol, Coast Guard Auxiliary, and airports in Terrace, Williams Lake, Prince George and Victoria.

The hut was built by our very own Skeena Zone Ski Patrol, and has now been donated to Shames Mountain in 2025; perfectly coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Canadian Ski Patrol Skeena Zone! 🏔️ Special thank you to the outdoor ops team at for working hard to get this up the mountain, and to all of our volunteer ski patrollers!

We've rested from the chaos and are here to say thank you!

Thank you to all the volunteers that came out and helped make it all happen. We put this on with and volunteers from both groups came out to put this all on. The set up and sale itself takes many bodies and we appreciate everyone who helped out and spent their Friday night and Saturday organizing skis and setting up chairs 🎿

We'd also like to thank all the other community organizations that set up their booths! It's always so fun to see our friends sharing their passion with the community.

Finally, thank you to everyone who came by to drop off fear and buy new things! The Ski Swap would be nothing without all the community members coming out to get new gear. We received a huge number of donations and are so grateful for that💛

We look forward to skiing with you all on the slopes with your new gear!!
