This year, NOSH Chief Executive Officer Adam Brown will take on an exhausting endurance test: 24 continuous hours of golfing to raise critical funds and awareness for the North Shore Harvest Food Cupboard (NSHFC). The round-the-clock event kicks off at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, September 1, and concludes at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, September 2.

"Food security is fundamentally tied to the overall health and well-being of our region," said Adam Brown, CEO of NOSH. "Taking on 24 hours on the course is a small effort compared to the daily challenges faced by families experiencing food insecurity in our communities. We are calling on our community members, businesses, and health care partners to join us in making this year's challenge our most impactful yet."

Throughout the 24-hour marathon, Adam Brown will be joined by community members and organizations on the course in rotating tee-times to play 9-hole “scramble” rounds, driving donor support and team spirit through the day and night.

To celebrate the conclusion of the challenge and thank community supporters, the NSHFC will host a Community BBQ at the Aguasabon Golf Course on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, beginning at 11:30 AM. Members of the public are warmly invited to attend, cheer on the final holes, and enjoy lunch together in support of a vital community resource.

For more information, or to inquire about donating towards this year's challenge, please visit our website at www.nosh.ca/ceo-challenge or contact Mitchel Hatton at [email protected] or by phone at 807-229-1740 extension 6224.

Join us in coming together to benefit a staple of health and growth in our community!

This program is a great chance for seniors and youth to connect in our community and learn from one another.

If you're 55+ and enjoy conversation, sharing your experiences, and making a positive impact on the next generation, we'd love to hear from you. You don't need to be a teacher or a professional storyteller—just someone who is willing to show up, listen, and share a little of your life.

Interested in learning more about becoming a GrandPal in our community? Contact Lorelle Sgro at 807-229-1740 ext. 6278 or by email at [email protected]. Together, we can help build stronger connections between generations—one conversation at a time.

Near the end of the school year, Marc Mailhot from GrandPals had the chance to sit down virtually with Lorelle from Peninsula Manor - Marathon Seniors Supportive Housing and a group of GrandPals who had participated in the program this year.

What started as a year-end reflection quickly became a beautiful reminder of what makes GrandPals so meaningful.

The GrandPals shared stories about getting lost in the bush near Hearst, travelling to Expo 67, visiting Australia and Europe, farming in Saskatchewan, moving to White River, and meeting a future husband in the Yukon.

But what stood out most was not only the stories they had shared this year. It was that they were already thinking about what they might share next year.

One GrandPal described this year as almost a “dress rehearsal.” Now that she had experienced the program, she had new ideas, new stories, and even plans for Portuguese tarts.

The students finished the year with written stories.

The GrandPals finished the year with new stories already waiting to be told.

That is the heart of GrandPals.
