🧡 94 Calls to Action. Start with one.
On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we are reminded that reconciliation requires more than reflection. It requires a willingness to listen, to learn, and to better understand the truths of our shared history.
Education is an important part of that journey.
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action #62: Education for Reconciliation calls on governments, in consultation and collaboration with Survivors, Indigenous peoples, and educators, to make education about residential schools, Treaties, and Indigenous peoples’ historical and contemporary contributions a part of what Canadian students learn.
While the Call to Action itself speaks specifically to governments and education systems, the importance behind it extends to all of us.
Education helps us understand the history that has shaped our communities and our country. It challenges us to recognize truths we may not have learned before and gives us the knowledge to move forward with greater understanding and respect.
Here in Temagami, that also means taking the time to learn about the lands and waters we share, their history, and the Teme-Augama Anishnabai, whose connection to this land extends back countless generations.
We all have the opportunity to keep learning.
Today, we encourage our community to start with one, but not stop there.
