With our friends at the Centre for Local Prosperity we are holding an event Local Prosperity 2026: Local People, Local Solutions, this summer August 6-9th in Tatamagouche, NS. This gathering is a conference/festival hybrid focused on re-localization, community wealth building, and place-based economics. Come join us to learn and share how communities can invest in themselves. Good quality local jobs. Land and buildings owned by the community. Community-rooted food systems. Worker-led businesses.

Local Prosperity is designed as a practical, hopeful space for place-based, community-led responses that aim for durable, systemic change rather than one-off projects.

Hosted by: Centre for Local Prosperity, North Shore Community Connections Society, and Rural Communities Foundation of Nova Scotia

What to expect: The event will be educational with keynote presentations, panel discussions, 30+ workshops (community or neighbourhood level) and upskilling sessions (hands-on skills), with a celebratory, joyful flair and atmosphere with live music, performances, artisan and makers markets, food truck festivals, and more.

Confirmed keynotes include:
Chris Googoo, CEO Ulnooweg Indigenous Communities Foundation
Helena Norberg-Hodge, founder of Local Futures
Sarah Longlands, CEO of the Centre for Local Economic Strategies

Who will be there: Local Prosperity 2026 will bring together about ~350 people from across sectors—municipal leaders, artists, academics, kids, students & youth, regional economic developers, business owners & entrepreneurs, non-profits, investors, policymakers, community organizations and anyone interested in strengthening local economies and resilient communities- to highlight and amplify work on practical solutions in food systems, energy, housing, land, finance, forestry, tourism, arts and culture, and more.

The Purpose: The purpose of Local Prosperity is to build community connection; demonstrate examples of relocalization and community-wealth building in action; foster collaborations between public, private, and community sector/non-profit members; prove that strong local communities are possible across all areas of the economy from food systems, to energy, forestry, housing, investment, tourism, arts and culture, and more.

Good morning everyone! I am sitting down today to write a funding report for the funds we received through Community, Culture, Tourism and Heritage. This funding allowed us to host multiple workshops throughout 2025 and the first part of 2026.

For those folks that attended any of our workshop, could you take a moment to message us to tell us your experience? Did you continue to practice the skill you learned? Meet new people? What workshops would you like to see in the future?

First hand feedback from participants is key to showing the positive impacts that the funding made in the community, and shows us what to focus on in the future.

Thanks so much and enjoy this beautiful, sunny day 🌞

Tatamagouche Regional Academy is kindly asking if anyone would be willing to donate gently used, safe, and student-friendly fitness equipment they are no longer using. These donations would go directly toward enhancing our Physical Education programs and fitness room, helping us create even more engaging and meaningful movement opportunities for our students.

We are especially looking for equipment that is appropriate for school use, such as free weights, resistance bands, mats, balance equipment, and cardio items that can be safely used and supervised.

If you have fitness equipment that’s no longer being used, we would be so grateful to give it a second life in our school.

🚚 If equipment is too large to transport, we do have access to a truck and can help with pickup.
