The gentleman and the ladies.

On Wednesday they will all have their feet trimmed. The trimmer is so busy that it's taken a very long time to get him out here.

If you guys wonder where the money goes, for these 3, it will cost about $500.

Luckily they only have to be done once, sometimes twice, a year.

About 14 more sleeps until B-Day (Buddy day).

I have a ton of work to do to make their outside coop really nice and also, easy for a mostly blind duck to get around.

This is what Shira does when she's trying to figure out if it's me who just walked in.

(For those who don't know, she's elderly and blind, most likely since birth.)

Thanks so very much to those who donated yesterday. I will try and get to you all today. Honestly, I wasn't prepared for how much pain I'd be in from the dental surgery.

I do have some good news!

I've found a call duck buddy for Graham Quacker! I was about to give up when these folks got hold of me.

He had 4 ducks-- 2 makes, 2 females, but one of the females died. 2 drakes on one female is never a good thing.

Plus, the little guy is mostly blind, so, he'll fit right in here. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I'm going to get him in about 2 weeks-- after the coop is all fixed up.

This rescue does a lot of wonderful work for horses who would normally go to the slaughter industry.

They're good people and, like the rest of us, are struggling with today's economy.

But the owner, Rebecca, has been injured and now they really need financial assistance.

Yes, we can certainly use donations, but Humanity for Horses truly needs our help right now.

We're all in this together. ๐Ÿ’•

If you can spare a few dollars, I know it'd be appreciated.

๐Ÿšจ Yesterday, everything changed. ๐Ÿšจ

Yesterday, Rebecca suffered a serious fall, dislocating her elbow and fracturing both the ulna and radius in her left arm. She is currently in a cast and awaiting consultation with an orthopedic surgeon to determine whether surgery will be required.

While we are incredibly grateful that her injuries were not worse, this setback will leave Rebecca unable to work, drive, or assist with the daily care of the horses for at least the next six weeks.

Many people donโ€™t realize that when Humanity For Horses has faced financial shortfalls, Rebecca has quietly stepped in to make sure the horses never went without feed, medications, farrier care, or veterinary treatment. Time and time again, she has found a way to bridge the gap when donations werenโ€™t enough.

This time, she canโ€™t.

The good news is that our incredible volunteers are already stepping up to help with feeding, chores, appointments, and daily care. Because of this amazing community, the horses will continue to receive the love and attention they deserve.

The challenge now is financial.

Donations have been slow, our hay bill continues to grow, and one of the rescueโ€™s biggest supporters is suddenly unable to work. The horses still need to eat. They still need medical care. Their needs donโ€™t stop because life throws us a curveball.

Today is Hay Day, and we are asking for your help.

If Humanity For Horses has ever touched your heart, please consider making a donation today. Every dollar goes directly toward caring for the horses and helping us navigate the weeks ahead.

A SAD $5 FRIDAY...

I'm afraid that Arima's time is very close to the end.

Just in the past little while, things have changed. She's eating, but not with any enthusiasm. She's not in a hurry to come and get it.

She's tucked up in the abdomen and yesterday and today, I saw her almost weaving (swaying back and forth) except only with her head and neck.

As well, she was chewing-- just standing and chewing-- like ruminant chewing her cud.

I don't think she's in pain, per se, but uncomfortable.

It could be that the tumour under her jaw is finally really bothering her, or it couldn't be any number of internal tumours.

It could also be something transient

I've known for a year that she had lymphangiosarcoma, an extremely rare and highly aggressive cancer and she has outlived everyone's expectations.

But, it appears that it is catching up with her, which is expected but nonetheless, incredibly sad.

For today's $5 Friday, the reality is that euthanasia and burial for a horse is expensive. And it's one of those things that makes grief even more stressful.

It's possible that Arima will continue on for a while, although highly unlikely. That submandibular tumour is just too big-- I can't see how it wouldn't bother her-- if not now, sion.. I'm watching really closely-- so far the bad times are few.

The likelihood of staying around much longer is very small.

It was expected, but incredibly sad. Arima is one of the sweetest, dearest horses I've known in all my decades.

If you'd like to help, it'd be appreciated.

I'm so sorry I haven't gotten back to you guys for last week's Friday! So much going on and now I'm recovering from yesterday's dental surgery-- which really wasn't fun and is still pretty darned sore.

So, please forgive me and I'll get to you as soon as I can. (I know I don't have to but I appreciate you guys too much not to!)

'Tis the season for babies...

06/10/2026

I passed out last night before I managed to get this posted. Didn't set my alarm. Didn't even take off my glasses or turn off my phone. Lol

Anyway, I lost my post but here's the video.

Gotta get going and get everything done so that I can get dental surgery this morning. Whee! Such fun! And, it looks like it's raining... again!

Another load of hay coming in this afternoon. $1,621 plus delivery.

Wish me luck! ๐Ÿ˜ณ

"Finally! I've been waiting all night for that bowl of Senior Feed!"

Tokala is 28. He and Sage (also 28), are the only horses here who are on grain. And they both suck up a LOT of it.

Horses, when they get older, tend to lose weight easily. They also lose muscle mass, especially over their spine.

It becomes a full time job just keeping them in good weight.

And senior feed, plus camelina oil has become super expensive. I also use Rice Bran as a source of more fats to help.

The equine dentist will be coming out soon as well to help in that department.

But honestly, he looks pretty amazing for such an old horse.

I'm sorry that I haven't gotten to you guys individually, to thank you for the $5 Friday donations. I've been really busy trying to finish up the Spring cleaning in between all the rain showers, as well as trimming hooves and all the other things.

By the time I get in, I tend to do a quick post and then pass out. Lol

Lookie here, guys!

That's Finnegan at the top of the playground.

He was born with severely crooked front legs. We had surgery done by our favorite small ruminant vet, and it was an unusual, major surgery, on the one front leg, and then we decided that the other was ok, at least for now.

Finn no longer has a knee in that leg, so I didn't think he was capable of climbing up there.

He didn't either.

But yesterday, he proved us both wrong! He climbed to the top, and was so proud of himself (I was proud of him, too!), then jumped down from the lower platform (I had to convince him not to jump from the highest one), then climbed right back up.

It's great, but now I have to try harder to get them all living harmoniously because apparently, Finn needs a playground too. ๐Ÿ˜Š
