The Government of Yukon is launching the Yukon Conservation Fund to support wildlife and habitat conservation projects across the Yukon. The government is allocating $450,000 to the fund, which will be used to provide long-term, annual investment in eligible projects.

The first step in launching the fund is establishing an advisory committee, which will bring together individuals with a range of experience to review project proposals and provide advice and recommendations to the Minister of Environment.

Applications to serve on the advisory committee are now open. Yukoners with relevant knowledge, skills or lived experience are encouraged to apply.

The long winter and heavy snow will make it a tough year for bears' natural food sources. Keep your yard and neighbourhood clean of garbage and other attractants like freezers and bird feeders to avoid conflict with bears.

A fed bear is a dead bear. After a particularly harsh winter, food sources are likely to be slow to develop for the bears this season leading to increased chances of human-bear conflict. Be prepared by cleaning up your yard of attractants, including your bird feeders.

It's lambing season again. Please STAY OFF trails in sheep and goat habitats until after June 15th. Needle Mountain, Caribou Mountain, Nares Mountain, and Montana Mountain are all home to populations of sheep or goats. Please be respectful and give them space until after this sensitive time.

Share Your Local Knowledge โ€“ Help Guide Our Work

Your observations, opinions, and on-the-land experience are important in shaping our recommendations to the Yukon Government and Carcross/Tagish First Nation Government.

For 5 years, C/TRRC has gathered local knowledge through interviews with 10โ€“15 individuals who spend extensive time on-the-land. Due to strong public interest, weโ€™re excited to open this new survey to all members of the public.

Whether you're a Southern Lakes resident or someone who spends time on the land in the area, we invite you to share your perspective.

The survey focuses on fish, wildlife, and recreation-related observations, with space for general comments after each section.
