CBMIC WELCOMES NEW BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The CBMIC AGM was held on Wednesday October 7, 2026. Thank you very much to all who expressed an interest in serving on the board, and to all the members who voted on position on the board.

We would like to thank the following past members who leave the board this year, but have contributed to the development of the organization over the past term. Marc Botte, Sara Bryden, Clint Fletcher, and Maria Rizzetto.

We also welcome the nominees who have been elected and re-elected, as well as our continuing sitting members, to the 2026-2028 Board of Directors.

Congratulations to our newly elected board of directors: Colin Douglas Grant, Rebecca Elizabeth Hicks, Nigel Kearns, Sean MacGillivary, Aaron Lewis, and Elizabeth Kathleen Maxwell.

Continuing sitting members: Maxim Cormier, Melissa Green, Sonnie Greening, Mike Le Lievre, Debbie Mullins, and Brett Santacona.

We look forward working with the new members on the future development of the Cape Breton Music Industry Cooperative

There are 6 open spaces available to fill and 9 nominees to choose from. You may cast 1 vote for as many nominees as you feel would make a great addition to the CBMIC Board.

CALLING NEW & EMERGING CAPE BRETON ARTISTS AND BANDS!

CBMIC is excited to help spread the word about Next Wave CBRM – Battle of the Bands, an exciting opportunity for new and emerging artists to get on stage, share their original music and connect with new audiences.

Opportunities like this can be an important part of an artist’s development — providing valuable live performance experience, exposure and a chance to take that next step.

Bands and solo artists of all ages and genres are invited to apply, with more than $10,000 in prizes and professional opportunities available.

Original music is required, and there is no fee to enter.

Five finalists will be selected to perform live:

Just a friendly reminder that ECMA 2027 submissions close this Friday, October 2, and you currently have a draft submission in AwardStage that has not yet been submitted. We know many applicants are still working on their forms, so no action is needed if you’re planning to finish it before the deadline.

We simply wanted to make sure you were aware that your submission is still showing as a draft, just in case you thought it had already gone through. All submissions must be completed and submitted by 11:59 p.m. ADT on Friday, October 2. Any drafts that remain unfinished after the deadline will not be considered.

If you’ve decided not to proceed with an application, the ECMA office kindly askes you to please delete the draft from your Award Stage account.

The CBMIC Board of Directors is looking for fresh voices:

CBMIC is accepting nominations for election to its Board of Directors ahead of the 2026 Annual General Meeting.

Our Annual General meeting will be taking place on Wednesday October 7th at 7pm, hosted in-person at the Sydney Downtown Development Association office located at 243 Charlotte Street, Sydney, and online via Google Meet.

We are a not-for-profit organization created to further develop and support Cape Breton’s music industry. We believe that the music industry in Cape Breton is a sustainable one, and in order to bridge the gap between local musicians and the music industry, we are seeking expressions of interest from individuals across our entire island wanting to contribute, and serve.

CBMIC is committed to supporting musicians, and industry professionals at all stages of their careers, including creating opportunities for young and emerging members to gain meaningful experience, build connections, and become more involved in Cape Breton’s music industry.

Serving on the CBMIC Board is an active volunteer leadership role with a mission to support members of our music industry by providing training, information and resources needed to establish themselves as viable industry professionals and to succeed in business.
