September 30th marks National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day – Every Child Matters

The orange shirt symbolizes the loss of culture, freedom, and self-esteem that many Indigenous children experienced. This day reminds us that “Every Child Matters”.

As newcomers and settlers in Unama'ki-Cape Breton Island, it is our responsibility to educate ourselves about the history and ongoing effects of the residential school system.

Position Title: Marketing Coordinator
Start Date: Jan 7th, 2027, 16 weeks
Compensation: $18 per hour

Work Schedule: 35 hours per week; schedule may include evenings and weekends based on programming needs

Location: Downtown Sydney or other venues as required

Role Summary:
The Marketing Coordinator will support the promotion, sustainability, and growth of MACB programs and initiatives by leading outreach efforts, strengthening community relationships, and assisting with fundraising activities. This role plays a key part in increasing public awareness, community participation, and financial support for multicultural programming and our projects across Cape Breton.

Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:

* Develop and implement marketing and promotional strategies for events, programs, and initiatives (e.g., markets, cultural events, and community activities)

* Create engaging content for social media, newsletters, and other communication channels

* Support and coordinate fundraising activities, including sponsorship outreach, donor engagement, and campaign support

* Identify and build relationships with community partners, sponsors, and stakeholders

* Conduct outreach to recruit vendors, participants, and volunteers for events and programs

* Assist with branding and storytelling efforts that highlight cultural diversity and community impact

* Support on-site event coordination, including audience engagement and promotion

* Track marketing and fundraising performance (e.g., attendance, engagement, funds raised) and assist with reporting

* Collaborate with internal teams to align marketing, programming, and fundraising efforts
