We are very thankful for community partners, like the YMCA of Cape Breton! We are proud to support their work and proud of our longstanding relationship!

Community impact is built through strong partnerships and this one spans decades!

We recently welcomed Lynne and Erin from the United Way Cape Breton for a cheque presentation, with funds supporting our YMCA's Membership Financial Assistance Program and Community Programming Centre.

Our YMCA has been contributing to community impact for 140 years and the United Way of Cape Breton is one of our longest-standing community partners. Their continued support has helped ensure more people can access the programs, spaces and opportunities they need to belong, connect and thrive.

Thank you to the United Way for your continued investment in our YMCA and community organizations across Cape Breton.

Wishing Gala sponsor, Eron Doucette the best of luck tonight! ✨🤩♥️💃

What Moves Them: Pair Spotlight with Eron Doucette and Ryan Davis 💃🕺

Eron has called Sydney home for 11 years with her husband Ken and their three kids. She works alongside Ken at Canadian Tire and volunteers with the local Jumpstart Chapter, helping kids grow through play.

With a degree in Child and Youth Care, she's worked with families in youth outreach, schools, daycare and as a resource social worker. Her daughter is the dancer in the family, so we'll see if Eron picked up some moves from watching her.

Ryan has danced competitively for 10 years with Northside Dance and is back for his second Dancing with the Stars for Hospice. Eron has watched him dance for years and is already thanking him for his patience.

So what moves them? For Eron, it's stepping outside her comfort zone to build a community that looks after families and kids. For Ryan, it's being part of a cause that helps so many people right here at home.

We were honoured to be recognized by Horizon Achievement Centre at their Annual General Meeting.

We received the Community Partnership award for our work on the School Lunch Program. Like Horizon, we believe in building strong, caring and inclusive communities where folks have access to the supports and resources they need to thrive. The School Lunch Program provides meaningful employment opportunities for Horizon, while supplying healthy lunches for local children.

We look forward to a continued partnership with Horizon. Thank you so much for recognizing our work together.

🧡 NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH & RECONCILIATION WALK: 🧡

Today, September 30, we come together as a community to honour residential school survivors, their families, and the children who never made it home.

Join us at Membertou School (Malpeltuewey Kina’matno’kuom) for a community walk and BBQ beginning at 2 PM. Drummers, singers and speakers will join us as we gather in remembrance, reflection and support of one another.

We encourage community members to bring their drums and wear orange shirts and ribbon skirts. The walk begins at 3 PM.

Orange shirts are available today at the Membertou Heritage Park for $25 each, or $18 each when purchasing three.

We invite everyone to join us as we walk together in honour of our people, our families and those who came before us. 🧡

Today, we pause to honour Survivors, remember the children who never returned home, and recognize the lasting impact of residential schools on Indigenous families and communities.

United Way Cape Breton will be closed today as we take time to reflect, listen, learn, and honour the ongoing journey toward reconciliation.

May today remind us of the importance of community, compassion, understanding, and creating a future where everyone feels a sense of belonging.
