Our Clothing Room is open! 👗👟🧦

Beginning Wednesday, October 21st, our Clothing Room will be open Monday to Friday between the hours of 10:00am and 3:00pm! We kindly ask visitors to bring their own bags and be respectful when visiting the Clothing Room, staying mindful to keep it clean and tidy!

We will be holding a final day of Adopt-a-Family registration on Friday, October 30th from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Please note that registration is completed in person at 21 Trinity Avenue, Sydney.

Please be prepared to provide proof of income, health cards for your children, and a couple wish items for each child.

We do not register families in the New Waterford area. Families in New Waterford can receive assistance through Combined Giving.

Adopt-a-Family registration starts today!

Registration will take place from Monday, October 5th until Friday, October 9th, 10:00am until 3:00pm in-person at Every Woman's Centre, 21 Trinity Avenue, Sydney!

Registration for our annual Adopt-a-Family Christmas Program is happening soon!

This year, registration will be done completely in-person at Every Woman's Centre, 21 Trinity Avenue, Sydney from Monday, October 5th until Friday, October 9th from 10:00am to 3:00pm.

We kindly ask that you come prepared with your proof of income, health cards for your children, and a couple of wish items for each child.

Please note, we do not register families in the New Waterford or River Ryan area. Families in these areas can register with Combined Giving at KOC on Plummer Avenue on November 6th, 7th, and 14th. Additionally, we do not provide Christmas meals for registrants outside of Sydney. Families outside Sydney will be provided with information on where they can register for their Christmas meal.

Today is the International Day of Non-Violence, which is recognized annually on the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, leader of the Indian independence movement and pioneer of the philosophy and strategy of non-violence.

"Gandhi, who helped lead India to independence, has been the inspiration for non-violent movements for civil rights and social change across the world. Throughout his life, Gandhi remained committed to his belief in non-violence even under oppressive conditions and in the face of seemingly insurmountable challenges.

The theory behind his actions, which included encouraging massive civil disobedience to British law as with the historic Salt March of 1930, was that "just means lead to just ends"; that is, it is irrational to try to use violence to achieve a peaceful society. He believed that Indians must not use violence or hatred in their fight for freedom from colonialism." (United Nations)

Today is also a reminder that non-violence doesn’t mean standing by and doing nothing. It means standing up for what is right without hate or harm. In a world where it can be easy to get caught up in anger and division, Gandhi’s message reminds us that we can disagree, speak out, and work for change while still treating others with respect and compassion.

This is a time to come together, spread awareness, and show support for everyone whose lives have been touched by breast cancer. This month is an important reminder of the impact breast cancer has on so many people and families, and of the strength, hope, and support that surround those going through it.
