We're excited to launch our Employee Spotlight series! Every Monday morning, we'll be introducing you to a dedicated, passionate, and inspiring individual who makes Every Woman's Centre thrive.
We're kicking off our series with our Executive Director, Heather MacLellan!
"I joined Every Woman's Centre as the Executive Director in May of this year after spending ten years running my own consulting business. As an entrepreneur, I've had the privilege of working with companies in eight countries, across four continents to create thousands of hours of training and programming that has reached countless individuals and organizations around the world. I created my first online course in 2008 and it's still being used by the company today.
Impact is important to me and when I think about impact, I think about how what we share with people creates ripple effects we can't yet imagine. That's how I feel about the work at Every Woman's Centre: the work is impactful in so many ways in our community that we can see and feel, but it's the parts we don't see that I know are just as meaningful. We can't know how far reaching our impact is, whether here at the Centre, or as individuals in the community.
I completed a Master of Adult Education degree in 2018 at StFX where I conducted a self-study on how our work impacts our understanding of ourselves, the decisions we make, and the patterns we create as a result of that understanding. I graduated from UCCB prior to it becoming CBU with a Bachelor of Arts Community Studies and I completed a Medical Office Administration program in 2026 where I immediately turned around and started teaching the program at a private career college in Halifax as a result of my time spend in the Canadian Army as a Medical Assistant and my experience in adult education. I've worked in tech, finance, education, community economic development and non-profits. As they say, one thing leads to another and every role I've held has been the catalyst as well as the foundation for the next challenge I've accepted in my work.
When I'm not working, I love to write. I've published over a dozen books in business and professional development, as well as fiction novels over the last ten years and have plans to write many more books. I am a mom to a teenage son and I spend a lot of time working on creative projects with him. I love to travel, take road trips, and camp. In 2022, I took a solo trip across Canada lasting six weeks, totaling over 16,000 km in which I camped in every province, explored new places, met amazing people, and somehow made it that far and back with only one instance of a dead vehicle battery and a busted tail light. That trip changed my life and outlook on how we spend our time and I made a lot of changes as a result of driving the Trans Canada Highway. I'm forever grateful for that experience and what I learned about myself. "
Thank you for all that you do for our organization, Heather! 💜
