WGC - Washbrook Greenway Coalition Sydney

WGC - Washbrook Greenway Coalition Sydney supports collaborative development of a green corridor, throughout the Southend of Sydney, NS WGC formed in 2018.

The Washbrook Greenway Coalition is a group of local stakeholders from various backgrounds who envision the Washbrook as a community hub which can link the Southend of Sydney to the Downtown. Our mission is to “Create and maintain a green corridor that runs from the Baille Ard Nature Trail system along the Washbrook to Whitney Avenue.”

The Washbrook Greenway has been identified in the new CBRM AT Plan as one of the 10 signature projects.

We care about other waters too, not just the Washbrook :) Here is a great local opportunity to learn more about what is happening to protect and sustain the Bras d'Or Lakes and watershed through the lens of Etuaptmumk/Two-Eyed Seeing. A great chance to learn more about what is being done and what you can do!

Thank you to all the amazing women in science (from our community!) that have supported all the ongoing work of the Washbrook Greenway project - you know who you are!

A significant gender gap has persisted throughout the years at all levels of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines all over the world. Even though women have made tremendous progress towards increasing their participation in higher education, they are still under-represented in these fields.
Gender equality has always been a core issue for the United Nations. Gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls will make a crucial contribution not only to economic development of the world, but to progress across all the goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as well.

Exciting news for our pals at Pathways to Employment! :)

Thanks to our generous donors, Pathways to Employment participants now have a reliable vehicle to get to their job sites 💜

"With this new vehicle, we can focus less on whether we’ll make it to the job site and more on the meaningful work that happens once we arrive," says Justin Valis, General Manager, Pathways to Employment.

"For people living with mental health challenges who are working to rebuild confidence, skills, and independence...reliability matters," he continues. "Knowing that transportation is dependable reduces anxiety, removes barriers, and allows participants to fully engage in meaningful work. Sometimes the most powerful support is simply removing uncertainty so people can focus on growth."

We are sending our most sincere THANK YOU to those who give in support of mental health initiatives in Cape Breton. It is because of your gifts that Pathways can continue to help people in recovery move forward through dignity, purpose, and employment. 💜

It's true!

Monday is World Wetlands Day.

Wetlands are vital ecosystems that support biodiversity, climate mitigation and adaptation, human well-being, and more.

They store more carbon than any other ecosystem — yet, they remain among the world’s most threatened habitats.

We must step up efforts to protect and restore these unsung heroes of the climate crisis.

Help our friends at ACAP reach their goal! This could be a great holiday gift for an environmentally-minded person 💚

Can we count on your support to help us reach our goal of 500 sponsored trees by the end of this year?

Your generosity has already made a real impact—because of you, we have 320 hardwood trees sponsored through our Adopt a Forest program, and for that we are incredibly grateful.

A single donation of $5 means one hardwood tree planted in a habitat restoration project.

Let’s make this holiday season a turning point for climate action here in Unama’ki-Cape Breton. ❤️
