The Sweetmeat Basket
Sweetmeats were the original dessert selection offered in a wide variety after a grand meal! Fanciful silver baskets held sweet treats such as: bite size cakes, candied fruit, and glazed nuts.

Memories
From an interview with Mrs. Bruce:
“Mr. Dykeman came to the Post Office with a petition from neighbouring residents of the country wanting a Post Office. They had signatures in the application, but they had no name to suggest. I looked through old post office guides and saw the name of a post office in San Benito, Mexico, that had been closed years ago. So I said Benito, and they put that on the petition. The Post Office on Dykeman’s farm was opened under the name Benito. The town then took the name of the nearby Post Office.”

Reminiscing About Pioneering:
“At that time there were no covered wagons. We came up from Cowan in a covered sleigh, stove in it and we were quite comfortable. In the summer, they just came open. A lot of people had their cattle and the odd horse, whatever they had, with them. The wagons were piled up with everything they owned. Sometimes there would be two three wagons together”.
