GUESS WHAT DAY IT IS!!!

That's right! As my husband walked around cradling his big orange baby this morning, he reminded me that it's NATIONAL GINGER CAT DAY and that maybe Todd (the cat) deserves a little extra today (because 15lbs isn't heavy enough for Todd).

At SVAPL we currently have FOUR ginger cats (or mostly)! Dave, Newton, Mango and JJ!

JJ has been here the longest of all our cats as he arrived in 2020! He's the biggest cat we have and the most shy which is why he keeps getting overlooked. :(

DID YOU KNOW...?

About 80% of ginger cats are male due to the orange pigment gene being carried on the X chromosome.

Every ginger cat is technically a tabby; solid orange coats do not exist without some form of striping or swirling pattern.

The pigment responsible for their orange coat (pheomelanin) is the exact same pigment that causes red hair in humans.

All ginger cats have an "M" shaped marking on their forehead, which is a signature trait of the tabby pattern.

They often develop black freckles on their nose, lips, and gums as they age due to a harmless condition called lentigo.

FOSTERING is what makes us able to rescue more dogs and Jen has that all figured out! She has fostered FORTY EIGHT dogs (so far)! Wow, right?

Jen loves "pupdates" on the ones she fostered (as do i) so we want to see your precious pooches that you adopted from us that were fostered by Jen!
