This morning I was, as you might anticipate, thinking about the resurrection of Jesus, and in particular the passage in Ephesians 1:19 where it talks about God's dazzling display of power that brought Jesus back to life.
Sometimes I overly analyze things, but today I was thinking about the power of God that reanimated Jesus' liver, kidneys, eyes, ears, heart, brain, taste buds, lungs, spleen, pancreas ... every organ in Jesus' body that had been dead and non-functioning for 3 days, was in a moment, revived to perfect working order.
The Apostle Paul specifically highlights for us the importance of us 'knowing' this great power ... meaning, for us to take comfort and assurance in the fact that God can do far beyond anything we can ever even imagine... even resurrecting what we see as 'dead ' and beyond hope.
What a great God we serve! Happy Easter my friends. He is Risen.

I can not remember a time in my life when I was not aware of the verse, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son...", but the impact of those words of Scripture hit me in a particularly weighty way when I became a father to my son. I remember holding him for the first time and looking into his little face, and was surprised when this thought went through my mind. "I can imagine lovingly giving up my life, to save someone else's life, but can I image any circumstance where I would willingly give my son to die on behalf of someone else?" And the answer was NO.
I believe I would die for someone else, but I don't love anyone enough to willingly sacrifice my son on their behalf. Yet that is exactly what God the Father did 2000 years ago. He didn't come to die on my behalf, He sent His Son to die on my behalf. That is a degree or level of love that I know nothing about.
As the Hymn writer wrote: "How can I help but love Him, who's grace is so full and free"
This Good Friday, I stand in awe of the love of God, who loved you and I sooooo much, that He sent His Son to die on our behalf.

I am reminded this Christmas season that the Son of God miraculously came into this world 2,000 years ago, to offer salvation to 'all people' (Luke 2:10) and that includes you and I. The scope of God's redemptive plan was never limited to one race, language, ethnicity or socio-economic group, nor constrained by how far we have strayed from God. Rather God's gracious offer of salvation is extended to 'whosoever' will believe and receive Jesus as the Lord and Saviour of their life (John 1:12, 3:16). In eternity there will be an innumerable amount people from every nation, tribe, people and language around the throne of God rejoicing in God's great salvation (Rev. 7:9) ... and it all began with a baby, born and laid in a manger in Bethlehem.

A joyous and merry Christmas from the staff at the national office of The Wesleyan Church of Canada.
