Stick to the floor system and the floor system will remain stuck.

One way to reduce risk… reduce the number of warranties!

Flooring systems can be complex, involving concrete slabs, moisture barriers, primers, leveling cements, adhesive and finally a floor covering product.

Multiple products are often used to complete one flooring system and so the risk of being caught up in a question of failure between two unrelated manufacturers is likely.

With fewer manufacturers involved in a system, there's less chance of finger pointing and dispute if an issue arises. For example, switching products like adhesives from the original specification to save money is a common cause of problems in the floor covering industry.

Technical support offered by product manufacturers should be consulted to ensure approval of their products when used in combination with other unrelated manufacturers.

Manufacturers who do not have accessible and comprehensive technical support should be avoided. www.nfca

A School Built for Students, Elevated by Craftsmanship

Garry Station K-5 stands as a bright, flexible, welcoming learning environment — one where the floors not only look beautiful but will continue to perform for years to come.

And behind that long-lasting success is the craftsmanship of Floor Designs, whose knowledge, pride in their work, and collaborative approach played a defining role in the project’s outcome.

“Gerflor was happy to participate not only to award Floor Designs for their great workmanship, but as a shoutout to all the skillful and hardworking installers out there. NFCA JUNE EDUCATION
Wednesday, June 10th at 4pm ET (1pm PST, 2pm MDT)

Join industry veteran Peter Rincione for a practical discussion on how AI is already reshaping pricing, customer acquisition, estimating, visualization, margin protection, and competitive strategy inside flooring businesses.

This session is designed for flooring retailers, contractors, distributors, and sales leaders who want to understand what AI actually is and means for their business today, without the hype or technical jargon.

USING AI TO SUPERPOWER EXISTING SYSTEMS
THE RISE OF THE DIGITALLY ENABLED FLOORING OPERATOR

Peter operates at the intersection of flooring, finance, and emerging technology. A former CEO and senior executive in the global flooring supply chain, he has led and advised organizations across manufacturing, distribution, retail, and installation.

He is the founder of Greige Matter, a consultancy helping flooring businesses, associations, GPOs, and investors navigate disruption driven by AI, data, and consolidation. Peter advises executives and private equity groups on strategy, technology adoption, and demand creation, and speaks nationally on the future of the flooring industry.

This talk is about the businesses that will outperform over the next decade, and why.

“The flooring industry is entering a new era, not driven by robotics or science fiction, but by operational leverage.”

Attendees will leave with:

• A clear understanding of AI in business terms
• Practical examples already impacting flooring operations
• A framework for identifying margin leakage and operational inefficiencies
• Actionable ideas that can be implemented immediately using existing
systems

Correcting concrete slab surfaces prior to floor covering installation requires time and money and is outside the scope of work for the trade of 'Floor Covering installer'.

This work can, however, be taken on as a billable extra.

The following is an excerpt from the NFCA Floor Covering Reference Manual regarding this...

2. The General Contractor (GC) shall provide a substrate surface acceptable for the installation of specified flooring materials. Unless otherwise defined by local trade jurisdiction or agreed to between the GC and the flooring contractor prior to commencement of the Work.

According to NFCA specification, the GC will be responsible for:

1. Filling and levelling all substrate surfaces including control and construction joints, structural cracks, grooves, gaps, and other irregularities.

2. Grinding smooth all ridges, undulations, projections and areas of carbonation and scaling.

3. Correcting low density or powdery concrete surfaces in order to provide substrate surfaces that are acceptable for the installation of flooring materials.

4. Major patching or installation of an underlayment using products that are suitable for substrate surfaces, and compatible with flooring materials.
