Beaver Lake Regional Park, southern Vancouver Island. Guided Bat walk!

Come learn about bats on a guided bat walk! πŸ¦‡

Join CRD Regional Parks naturalists and the HAT crew on a fun and educational walk as we explore the amazing world of bats.

Discover why bats are so interesting, what makes them so important to our ecosystems, and how we can help protect them. As the sun sets, we'll hopefully get to see the bats in action as they emerge from bat boxes at dusk to feed on insects. πŸŒ™πŸ¦Ÿ

Date: Friday, June 12, 2026
Time: 8 to 9:30 pm
Location: Elk/Beaver Lake Regional Park. Meet at the Beaver Lake Picnic Shelter at the Filter Beds parking lot. No RSVP needed.

Further details can be found on the CRD community events page. See you there!

Happy 15th Annual Bat Count! 🀩 It's time to head out in the evenings to count bats as they emerge from their roost sites. The counts are done at maternity colonies across BC found in buildings, barns, bat boxes, bat condos, and under bridges starting at sunset.

😍Between June 1 - 21st, we encourage two bat counts at each roost site. This is a count of all the females.

😍Between July 11 - August 5th, we encourage two more bat counts at each roost site. This is a count of all the females and the pups that are now learning to fly.

Where are the males? They mostly roost by themselves in trees, rock cliffs, or out in the open on buildings and are not found in the maternity colonies that we count.
