We were honoured to participate in a collective tribute video recognizing Kuldeep Ahluwalia following the Supreme Court of Canadaโ€™s recognition of the new tort of intimate partner violence.

This historic decision acknowledges that intimate partner violence can involve patterns of coercive control, intimidation, surveillance, financial abuse, threats, and ongoing harm over time.

The video brings together advocates, lawyers, frontline workers, community members, organizations, and leaders from across British Columbia and Canada to recognize the significance of this moment and the courage it took to carry this case forward.

Every October, FYidoctors raises funds for their Enhancing Life Foundation. While their campaign runs across Canada, each clinic team is unique, and each one chooses the organization they will support. Last year, the Delta lab selected Surrey Women's Centre and raised an incredible $32,000 to support survivors!

Yesterday, it was our privilege to share that impact with the 150 staff members who made it possible. These funds will go towards critical medical equipment and supplies at Windrose, Surrey's first dedicated sexual assault centre, providing:

๐Ÿ‘๏ธโ€๐Ÿ—จ๏ธ A specialized refrigerator for storing forensic samples that will cost $13,000
๐Ÿ‘๏ธโ€๐Ÿ—จ๏ธ An external light source that attaches to the medical bed for pelvic exams
๐Ÿ‘๏ธโ€๐Ÿ—จ๏ธ An instrument tray, speculums, and a lockable cabinet for medications
๐Ÿ‘๏ธโ€๐Ÿ—จ๏ธ A bedding warmer
๐Ÿ‘๏ธโ€๐Ÿ—จ๏ธ Mounted hand sanitizer stations and glove holders, and medical grade sanitizer wipes, masks, and gloves

When corporate and community giving come together, change happens ๐Ÿ™Œ

Women and girls know who the threats to their safety, autonomy, and rights are. And after 34 years of supporting survivors of gender-based violence, so do we. It is not now, nor has it ever been, trans people.

Attacks on trans rights try to shift the focus away from patriarchal structures and politicians that actively harm women. As feminists, we reject this deflection and division, and affirm our vision of gender equality: a world where women, girls, gender diverse, and q***r folks can live without fear, discrimination, and exclusion.

Last Sunday, Gagandeep from Surrey Women's Centre was invited to come on Sher-E-Punjab Radio to discuss domestic violence, particularly in South Asian cultures, and explore our survivor resources that can help change someone's life!

It was such an amazing conversation and we were so excited to chat about these topics in Punjabi. Surrey Women's Centre supports an extremely diverse and multicultural community - one of our main goals is to share our resources in as many languages as possible, so anyone and everyone and can learn about their options.

Thank you so much to Rashpal Gill and his team at Sher-E-Punjab Radio for the special opportunity to have us on to shed light about experiences that often live in the dark. ๐Ÿ’ก
