Congrats to the 22nd Markham troop for hosting their first successful MOVE4MANA Challenge!

8 Teams with 60 kids got physically active to earn RUTF packets for severely malnourished children in Africa!

Using our app (and our manual tracking sheets for the younger cubs and scouts), they collectively saved the lives of ELEVEN children!

Our first Scouts Canada MOVE4MANA Challenge is into its 2nd week of moving for MANA!

they’re combined activities are tracked in our app, the troop leaders are entering the younger kids, activity, points, manually, and all of that converts to life-saving Ready-to-Use Therapeutic food packets for severely malnourished children in Africa! What is in an RUTF packet? The base is delicious, nutritious peanut butter!

Children who are diagnosed as being severely malnourished, are given three packets a day for six weeks, and they are literally brought back from the brink of death with almost 100% of these kids never falling that far healthwise ever again!

What a fantastic idea! Every school should have one! 🍏 🏫

Student Anna Villines saw a janitor pull an orange from the trash and she realized how much food was being wasted at school.

She said, “It struck me that people were hungry in our own school, and here we were throwing away food that could be used.”

She talked to the principal about donating untouched food to a local pantry. That, she learned, wasn’t possible.

“He said it would be a violation of health regulations and could affect federal funding for school lunches."

She then learned about a school in Africa where they had set up a community refrigerator where students could place uneaten food for others to take.

A refrigerator was purchased by the school and now it is stocked daily by students who place their unopened fruit, milk, and packaged items inside instead of throwing them away.

And by the end of most school days it is empty - people stopping by it to snag something to eat.

“I feel comfort knowing that students in need are able to grab food on the go and nothing gets wasted.”

Stories help us imagine ways to solve problems for the hungry in our own communities. You never know who is hungry who is sitting right beside you. Imagine the ways that our lives could shift towards meaning if we focused on serving one another rather than discounting and competing.

Our youth deserve a life of meaning and it is stories of hope like this one that means we still have a chance to make an impact and change our ways of showing up.

UNICEF is on the ground in Gaza getting RUTF to kids who desperately need it. Grateful for all the organizations who are pooling scarce resources, people and funds to get these life-saving packets to the children in war torn Gaza.....

So happy to hear that shipments of RUTF and RUSF are making it to Gaza. One of our next shipments of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) is marked for Gaza now as well.
