This year marks the 10th Annual DIVERSEcity Entrepreneur & Small Business Fair and we’re getting ready to celebrate a decade of entrepreneurship in action!

Join us on October 22 for an afternoon bringing together entrepreneurs, business leaders and community partners from across the region. The event will feature inspiring speakers, a marketplace showcasing more than 40 local businesses, our Dragons’ Den-style Business Pitch Competition and opportunities to network and connect.

For the past decade, DIVERSEcity’s Self-Employment Program has helped hundreds of diverse entrepreneurs build the skills, connections and confidence to plan, launch and grow their businesses in Canada. We’re looking forward to celebrating this milestone with our community and making this year’s fair our biggest yet.

As part of our Building the Table multimedia toolkit, we’ve been sharing five videos featuring community leaders reflecting on what meaningful participation, representation and collaboration can look like.

Our fifth and final video features Heather McCain, founder and director of Live Educate Transform Society, who brings lived experience, curiosity and a strong belief in learning from one another. Heather reflects on the importance of creating spaces where people feel able to speak up, ask questions and participate at their own pace.

What does it mean to create spaces where people can participate in ways that work for them? Heather also speaks about the value of listening to people’s stories, making room for different experiences and approaching conversations with patience and humility.

For Heather, building stronger communities means recognizing that no single lived experience can speak for everyone and continuing to create opportunities for people to connect across different perspectives.

Developed through DIVERSEcity’s Together Against Hate project, Building the Table challenges us to think beyond simply inviting people into existing spaces and instead consider how those spaces are created, whose voices are represented and how decisions are shaped.

On September 21, ExpoPlaza Latina 2026: Beyond The Future of Workforce will bring together more than 450 decision-makers, executives and leaders from across HR, technology, government and academia at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

The forum will explore some of the key issues shaping Canada’s workforce, including connecting global talent with high-demand industries, responsible AI and digital adoption and new approaches to recruitment and credential recognition.

Through panels, Action Labs and spotlight talks, participants will have the opportunity to exchange ideas, explore practical strategies and connect with leaders working across sectors.

DIVERSEcity's Seniors Program team was proud to participate in a recent community event at Kekinow, connecting with Indigenous seniors and community members and sharing information about available supports and services.

Our connection with Kekinow extends beyond this event. Through weekly Storytelling Sessions, Indigenous seniors and community members come together to share experiences and spend time with one another in a welcoming space.

We are grateful for the warm welcome and the opportunity to learn, share resources and continue building meaningful relationships.

What perspectives are we missing when we make decisions without everyone at the table?

As part of our Building the Table multimedia toolkit, we're sharing five videos featuring community leaders reflecting on what meaningful inclusion and collaboration look like to them.

Our fourth video features Sukh Dhanjal, a lawyer who draws on her professional and lived experience as an immigrant to reflect on the importance of listening to different perspectives. Sukh shares why we shouldn't underestimate what someone can contribute and how bringing different experiences to the table can help us better understand challenges and find solutions together.

She also reflects on creating opportunities for people to contribute as their authentic selves, particularly when they may be navigating experiences or systems that are new to them.

Developed through DIVERSEcity's Together Against Hate project, Building the Table is designed to help individuals and organizations build more inclusive, collaborative and responsive spaces. Rather than simply inviting people to the table, it challenges us to consider whose voices are represented, whose perspectives shape decisions and how the table itself is built.
