Under The Same Sun Welcome to the official page for Under The Same Sun. We have allocated a minimum of $400,000 USD for this period alone.

Under The Same Sun (UTSS) exists to promote, via advocacy and education, the wellbeing of persons often marginalized and misunderstood. UTSS’ major goal is to promote the wellbeing of persons with albinism in Tanzania through the provision of education scholarships to children, youth and adults at all levels – from primary to post secondary institutions. Our Education Scholarship Fund (ESF) is offering grants to persons with albinism in many regions of Tanzania for the academic year 2013-2014. Our target is to reach over 300 beneficiaries, placing them in the best and safest educational environments Tanzania has to offer. NEW: we are pleased to announce that we have reached that target as of early 2014.

A new beginning. 🎓

This quarter, we celebrated one of our youngest students as he graduated from nursery school!

His journey makes this milestone especially meaningful. He came into UTSS care when serious safety concerns had prevented him from attending school.

Today, he is learning, growing and moving forward in a safer environment.

For us, education is about more than a classroom. It is about protection, opportunity and a future filled with possibilities.

We are grateful to everyone who helps make moments like this possible.

As Thanksgiving weekend approaches, we’re taking a moment to reflect on what we’re grateful for. 🧡

We’re grateful for our students who are working hard, breaking barriers, and becoming role models for other students with albinism.

For graduates celebrating strong results and preparing for university.

For the tools, healthcare and support our students receive so they can thrive.

For our team in Tanzania who show up everyday to care for and empower the students in our programs.

AND, we’re grateful to everyone who makes these possibilities real!

Thank you for standing with students with albinism in Tanzania.

Today is World Sight Day.

For students with albinism, access to proper eye care and low-vision support can make a life-changing difference in the classroom and beyond.

At UTSS, we provide eye exams, glasses and low-vision devices to help students see clearly, learn confidently and pursue their futures.

Clearer vision. Greater opportunity. Brighter futures. 💙

Albinism is still widely misunderstood, and people with albinism continue to face stigma, discrimination and violence.

At Under The Same Sun, we’re working to change that.

Through education, advocacy and our education program in Tanzania, we help students with albinism find safety, opportunity and the support they need to thrive, while raising awareness and challenging the myths that put lives at risk.

Peter Ash has lived this reality. His memoir, Out of the Ashes, tells his personal story, traces the journey of Under The Same Sun, and offers a deeper look at why this work matters.

People with albinism should never have to live in fear because of who they are.

A new report from The Guardian highlights the devastating reality facing people with albinism in Madagascar, where attacks and killings continue to threaten families and communities.

This is why we will continue to raise awareness about albinism, challenge the myths and misconceptions that fuel discrimination, and advocate for the safety, dignity and protection of people with albinism.

Attacks and killings must be condemned. They must stop.

The country is struggling to address a rise in attacks, with a record 13 people – mostly children – killed this year for body parts, which some believe can bring good fortune

Success doesn’t just happen in the classroom.

For students with albinism, thriving at school and preparing for the future takes more than a good education.

That’s why our support extends beyond the classroom.

We help students access healthcare and vision care, protect their skin, develop practical and digital skills, build confidence, navigate challenges and prepare for life beyond their studies.

Because education is about more than passing exams. It’s about giving young people the support, confidence and opportunities they need to thrive in everyday life and build a future of their own.

Your support helps make that possible.

Give today and help a student with albinism thrive, in school and beyond.

Education can change the course of a life.

For students with albinism in Tanzania, getting an education can mean so much more than a classroom and a diploma.

Through our education program, Under The Same Sun provides students with albinism with a safe place to learn, the support they need to stay healthy, and the tools and encouragement to pursue their goals.

It is about protection from the discrimination and dangers they can face.

It is about empowerment, giving students the confidence, skills and education to speak up for themselves and take their place in society.

And it is about opportunity, opening doors to university, careers and a future shaped by their own hopes and abilities.

Every student deserves the chance to learn, grow and discover what they are capable of.

Your gift can help make that opportunity possible.

Donate today and help provide protection, empowerment and opportunity for students with albinism. 🧡give.underthesamesun.com/UTSS2026
