We wanted to give a shoutout to these Sikh Academy boys, as we’ve been working closely with them for the last few months. They’ve shown great commitment, and we’ve enjoyed every bit of it. Keep up the good work!

XV DAY: GROUP SHOOTING DRILL‼️

WHY DO IT?
Our young shooters looking to stay balanced and controlled throughout their shot. We added the element of running backwards, to make it more challenging. This is a great drill to use when you’re shooting with your teammates. Get lots of reps up, and compete against each other. Shoutout to for the inspiration.

HOW TO DO IT?
Always start a few feet away from the hoop. The first person and last person in line, do not have basketballs. First person turns to the 2nd person in line and taps their basketball. After tapping the ball, proceed to run backwards. As the pass is being thrown, prepare your body to get into your shooting stance. After you shoot, you become the rebounder for the next shot. The first shot of the drill is rebounded by the last person in line.

HOW MANY REPS & SPOTS?
Use the five spots (2 corners, 2 45’s and the top). Go first player to hit 10 at each spot. Continue to stay strong and balanced, especially as you get more and more reps up.

PARTNER SHOOTING DRILL‼️

3-Spot Shooting:
Pick 3 spots. We had the girls shoot at the 2 Elbows and down the middle from the free throw line. For older players, you can pick 3 spots behind the 3-point line. First shooter starts at half-court, and then runs to the first spot. After shooting at the 1st spot, they run and touch half. From there, they run to the 2nd spot and catch-n-shoot. Same recipe for the 3rd spot. Once the 1st shooter has taken their 3rd and final shot, the 2nd shooter starts and runs to the first spot.

In regards to reps, you have a few options. You can obviously give the pair a group total (i.e. Make 20 shots together). You also have the option to make them compete against each other, and go first one to a certain total. To really challenge them, we like counting how many 3-in-a-rows they can get. You need a lot of mental focus to make all 3 shots in a row. Challenge our young shooters of the world!

Player Recognition 5: GURTAAJ HANS & KEVIN SIDHU‼️

Now is a better time for this recognition, than ever. These 2 boys have managed to beat my Tamanawis Junior team 2 times already, including a semi-final defeat yesterday. They now have a chance to win the RCMP Championship. A true bittersweet moment lol.

I first got to coach these guys 2 summers ago, and we had tons of fun. We won numerous tournaments, we had great practices, and we made a ton of memories. From there, we began doing shooting sessions, and individuals. They also took part in XV elite group sessions. We built a good bond, and I could see how badly they wanted to improve.
-
Fast forward to 2018 spring & summer, where they participated with the XV Training Team. These kids showed up day in and day out, and their recent success is no coincidence. I’m proud of them for continuing to stay with the grind, and showing results where it matters most... In games. Good luck the rest of the way boys!

Shoutout to these amazing ballers, who did some great things at this year’s tournament. Congratulations to Semiahmoo for their 2nd straight championship. We wish all of you continued success as playoffs are approaching.
