We are deeply saddened to share the news of the demise of Sardar Balbir Singh Sr., the greatest legend in the sport of Field Hockey, a stalwart worthy of every word spoken in his praise and much more! We join the hockey fraternity in mourning the loss that we all feel so deeply! He was a friend of ours, and of every hockey lover everywhere! The following has been taken from Wikipedia..

Balbir Singh Dosanjh (31 December 1923 – 25 May 2020) is a former hockey player from India. He is a three-time Olympic gold champion having played a key role in India's wins in London (1948), Helsinki (1952) (as Vice Captain), and Melbourne (1956) (as Captain) Olympics. He is regarded as one of the greatest hockey players of all time, and is widely regarded as the sport's greatest ever centre-forward. His Olympic record for most goals scored by an individual in an Olympic men's hockey final remains unbeaten. Singh set this record when he scored five goals in India's 6–1 victory over the Netherlands in the gold medal game of the 1952 Olympic Games. He is often called Balbir Singh Senior to distinguish him from other Indian hockey players named Balbir Singh.

Singh was the Manager and Chief Coach of the Indian team for the 1975 Men's Hockey World Cup, which India won, and the 1971 Men's Hockey World Cup, where India earned a bronze medal. During the London Olympics in 2012, Singh was honoured in the Olympic Museum exhibition, "The Olympic Journey: The Story of the Games” held at the Royal Opera House. The exhibition told the story of the Olympic Games from its creation in 776BC through to the London 2012 Olympic Games. He was one of the 16 iconic Olympians chosen whose example "tells of human strength and endeavour, of passion, determination, hard work and achievement and demonstrates the values of the Olympic Movement".

Today, as we celebrate the Annual Sikh Vaisaakhi Nagar Kirtan in Surrey, we remember our dear brother Surinder Singh Hehar, who left us last year. Brother, you are in our thoughts and minds, your team stands by you!

We wish Jaisleen a bright and happy future, lots of laughter and smiles to come in the years ahead! Surrey Field Hockey Club announces the arrival of Avitaz Singh Johal, born to Tirath and Pardeep Johal!

Avitaz was born on the 19th Feb, 2016, at 1:18 AM, as a natural birth healthy and smiling boy. The date of birth also coincides with the marriage anniversary of TIRATH and Pardeep Johal! What a wonderful gift!!
We congratulate both the Johal and Bassi families, may WaheGuru ji bless the new born with great health, education and success in life!

We are very happy at this handsome little addition to the Lions' Family!

Surrey Field Hockey Club expresses deep sorrow and solidarity at the very unfortunate and tragic passing away of Graeme Gordon Carswell, at a young age of 21. Carswell was a great guy both on and off the field and the local field hockey fraternity will miss him on the field. We express deepest condolences with the family and friends of Carswell.
May he rest in peace in God's abode.

Today, the 29th of November, 2015, at exactly 4:31 and 25 seconds, the family of Surinderpal Singh Hehar bid their farewell one last time and pressed the button to start the cremation. Well over 2000 people, family members, friends, and members of the field hockey fraternity attended the last rites ceremony. well wishers of the Hehar family filled the seating area, the outside lounge, corridors and walkways of the Riverside Funeral Home. He was a great guy and will be missed by all that had a chance to know him.

We Thank all of his friends, family members, his co-workers from Delta Port Longshoremen, members of India Field Hockey Club, Panther's Field Hockey, United Brothers' Field Hockey, Raider's Field Hockey, Elite Hockey, Sharks Field Hockey, West Coast Field Hockey, and others from the local field hockey fraternity were there to pay their respects, friends came in from as far as California, USA, to honour their fallen brother. The amount of support and Love shown has been immense and overwhelming.

Surinderpal Singh Hehar was born on 8th of March, 1970, in Village Heran, Distt. Ludhiana, in the state of Punjab, India. he had been living in Canada since the last 23 years, and was involved in the sport of field hockey as a players as well as a promoter of the sport, as a prominent member of the Surrey Field Hockey Club.

Today, His friends talked of him, about him and with him, they talked of how they will miss him, his son and neice talked of how they would miss him forever, kids from our club talked of how inspiring he was to them.

Today, in this moment of sorrow, we pledge to keep the dream alive, to carry his legacy in the sport forward. In his memory, we carry on, we play on......

It is with profound grief, sorrow, and disbelief, that we announce the passing away of a great friend, a brother, a mentor and member of our club, Surinderpal Singh Hehar, earlier today. We, his friends, family members, his hockey fraternity, are all in a state of shock and disbelief at this.

In this moment of shock, we miss his ever smiling presence, but we, at Surrey Field Hockey Club and Surrey Lions, pledge that he lives with us and within us, that his legacy in our sport shall carry on, that we shall be guided by his principles of brotherhood. We pledge today, that though we may miss him, but the hockey fraternity and community at large shall not miss the legacy of all the good things that he did for our sport, for we, with his guiding spirit, shall carry on strong!

Let it be known, He is still with us.
Let it be known, We stand by him.

Our heartiest congratulations and warm wishes to Roopinder Singh Virdi, our A-Team player, his wife and partner for life, Jasjit Kaur Virdi, and their families on the arrival of Sardar Dilawar Singh Virdi into their family !
